Component

Plate ledge
Problem Two plates are loaded onto the drum causing a focus algorithm error or double plate detected.
Solution(s) Install new plate ledge with a new air jet system
Parts needed 05-0241 Trendsetter NEWS - BOM

05-0242 Trendsetter Autoloader - BOM

The kits are different because the autoloader has 3 plate ledge teeth and the newspaper machine has 4 teeth

Tools needed n/a
Procedure
  1. Move the unload table down. Take the left horizontal cover off to expose the engine manifold.
  2. Disconnect the unload air jet line from a Y connector that is branched into the load ramp top plumbing. (These are the jets that help direct the plate to the unload table.)
  3. Replace the horizontal cover. Move the picker up.
  4. Place a plate in the bay on the right side and mark where the top edge is on the load table. Repeat for the left side using the same plate. These marks provide a guideline for installing the new ledge in exactly the same place as the existing one.
  5. Undo all the small flat head screws on the plate ledge. Loosen off the door rubber bumpers that are an inch above the ledge on both sides (these also lock the ledge in position).
  6. Disconnect the large 5/16" red air lines that feed the plate separation air jets that move the ramp in (you will hear air blowing out of the Y connector that you left open in a step above). Pull the ledge down once free from the table. Rotate diagonally and slip it out above the picker.
  7. Put the new ledge in.
  8. Replace the same plate on the ledge and line it up with the pencil marks on the load table from an earlier step. Do this for both sides. Tighten the screws with the NON-BALL end of an allen key until they are just snug (so they can be removed in the future). Reattach all tubing and reed switch cable.

The remaining pieces in the kit are made to improve the air seal.

  • Install the longest of the 1/4" x 3/8" foam tape on the lower lip of the bay door to seal the air gap between the bay door and the small flip up door.
  • The next shorter 1/4" x 3/8" piece goes on the black flange of the small flip up door to seal between the door and the horizontal filler panel.
  • If you have a newer machine with the vertical covers, install the clip-on rubber seal (similar to seals on a car door). Attach to the vertical covers on either side of the bay door. The seal should start just above the bay door locking solenoid and run up to just above the gas spring.
  • If you have older covers, attach 2 equal length pieces of 1/4" x 3/8" to the vertical covers on either side of the bay door. With the paper backing still in place, push the foam between the cover and the gas spring from just above the bay door locking solenoid to just above the gas spring. Then peel away the backing to let the glue on the foam adhere to the cover.
  • Attach the last foam pieces, 1/2' x 3/4", on the cover above the imaging head - right on the edge that is closest to the load ramp. Move the table up to get access. The intent is to somewhat seal between the unload table and this cover when the table is up.
