Undetected plate flyoff

Applies to

  • VLF Platesetter
  • VLF Trendsetter
  • Trendsetter 3244
  • Platesetter 3244

Description

The plate flyoff sensor fails to detect a plate flyoff or an obstruction below the LEC.

Causes

Solutions

Flyoff sensor is masked

Enter these diagnostic commands to make sure that the flyoff sensor is not masked:

set drum chkfly 1
nvs save drum

Plate flyoff sensor is misadjusted

Adjust the plate flyoff sensor:

Improperly set NVS parameters

Make sure that the NVS parameters sys tstate and sys tstatus are at their default values.

Signal from sensor is not being read

If the output device is fitted with a laser sensor, check that the system is reading the sensor signal by using the drum command (drum module version 1.07 or later):
drum-flyoff laser sensed yes/no

Plate not loaded properly

Check if the plate leading edge is being damaged before it is loaded on drum. A bent corner could protrude above the leading edge clamps and be missed by the flyoff detector beam, but it could catch on the engine frame and be pulled off the drum.
