Y-axis doesn't extend/retract to correct position

Applies to
  • VLF Trendsetter AL

Machines affected All machines.

Error Number None

Component Y-axis

Problem The yaxis doesn't extend to the correct position at the plate's leading edge, or doesn't retract properly to home. Its behaviour can range from not moving at all, only partially moving, or moving too far.

Causes and Solutions Cause 1:  Obstruction on table
Solution:
Clear the table of any objects or debris.

Cause 2:  Wrong plate size entered on workstation
Solution:

Cause 3:  Y-axis has hung up on the leading edge of the table
Solution:
Remove the cover from the y-axis and manually turn the leadscrew to cofirm that it is a mechanical (binding) problem. If it is, you may have to bend the leading edge of the table slightly.

Cause 4:  Machine is in manual mode
Solution:
Check that the operator has not inadvertently chosen manual bypass mode on the workstation.

Cause 5:  Safety loop is broken
Solution:
See VLF Trendsetter AL safety loop

Cause 6:  Faulty connections
Solution (a):
Check for poor connections or faulty wiring between:

  • the Genine 0 board and the y-axis stepper motor
  • the stepper motor output gear and y-axis shaft
  • the y-axis shaft and the flex track
  • the home/away sensor and the Genine 0 board
  • the MPE and PDB boards, via RS232
  • PDB J13 and Genine 1
  • Genine 1 J26 and Genine 0 J24

Solution (b):  Check that the firmware is sending the correct signal to the Genine board.

Cause 7:  Genine 0 board is faulty
Solution:
See VLF Trendsetter AL Genine boards.

Cause 8:  Home/away sensor has failed
Solution:
Replace the sensor (part number xx-xxxx), located at the end of the flextrack.

Cause 9:  Y-axis stepper motor has failed or stalled.
Solution:
The y-axis stepper motor is located on the back of the plate door. See VLF Trendsetter AL motors.

Cause 10:  Y-axis has failed mechanically.
Solution:
Check the y-axis for damage or wear. Also check whether the shafts are sticking, or are dislocated from their bearings.

Cause 11:  Power supply to the PDB has failed
Solution:
Check the 48V power supply (green LED) on the Power Distribution Board (PDB).
