How to Bypass Delta to Run TIFF Downloader

  checkbox.gif (459 bytes)  Tested   uncheckbox.gif (229 bytes)  Not Tested

Applies to

Print Console 1.x (may apply to Print Console 2.x if Delta becomes qualified) when connected to Delta.

Problem

To isolate a problem between Delta and Print Console, you need to use the TIFF Downloader to submit files. However, there are a number of steps required to cofigure the TIFF Downloader to work with Delta.

Background

  • For more information on the TIFF Downloader, see the TIFF Downloader page in the CRI site.
  • For more information on the Delta configuration, see the Delta site in the Trendsetter Connectivity site.

Workaround

To use the TIFF Downloader when trying to isolate problems between Delta and Print Console, do the following:

  1. Make sure the TIFF Downloader is on the Delta RIP. If not, do the following:
    • Install Print Console v1.0.1.1. The Delta CDs should contain this version (disk says “Print Console” on it).
    • Make sure to select TIFF Downloader during the installation.
    • Do not install version 1.0.2.2 or newer. These are not yet supported by Heidelberg.
  2. Currently the wide differential cable connects the Delta tower and the output device. Since the Delta tower will distort the TIFF file, you need to bypass the Delta Tower:
    • Power off the device(s) and workstation.
    • Move the wide differential cable from the Delta tower and plug it directly onto the Workstation's wide differential SCSI (the Adaptec's have the word Differential written besides the I/F plug).
    • Power on the device(s) and workstation.
  3. Set the following registry key to 0 (zero) to enable Print Console to come to the foreground. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CREO\PRINT CONSOLE\V1.0\HeidelbergGUI.

Setting it back to 1 re-enables Delta. Rebooting sets it back to 1.

  4. Make sure you have the 3 Prinergy CD's (“Spectrum 1.1 PATP files”) with the 4up and 8up proof test files. You may have to install Winzip on the host PC and unzip the files.
  5. Submit TIFF files via the TIFF Downloader in Print Console 1.0.

Once you've completed your testing, restore the original configuration (put cables back in proper places).

Permanent Fix
