The registry consists of three 32K blocks of flash used as primary, secondary and baseline parameter sections. The primary and secondary sections provide a redundant backup for reading and writing registry keys ( or parameters ) while the baseline section provides a baseline for the registry keys ( or parameters ). Since only entire sectors of flash can be erased, registry keys cannot be overwritten. As parameters are written to the registry, the previous registry key becomes inactive and a new registry key becomes active. As registry keys are written to the registry, eventually the registry fills with inactive registry keys.

| The monitor command reg optimize verifies the integrity of both the primary and secondary parameter sections. If both the primary and secondary parameter sections are valid, then the primary parameter section is erased and reconstructed from the active registry keys in the secondary parameter section. If successful, the secondary parameter section is erased and duplicated from the optimized primary parameter section.

| Before the monitor command reg optimize, the monitor command reg info will indicate that a fraction of flash memory is used by inactive registry keys. After successful completion of the monitor command reg optimize, the monitor command reg info will indicate that none of the flash memory is used by inactive registry keys.

| If required, the firmware will automatically perform registry optimization when registry keys are written to the registry. As a result, the monitor command reg optimize will not normally be required.
