Thermal2 Errorcode: [00217] Beam-balance prevented by drift errors
Thermal2 Errorcode
[00217] Beam-balance prevented by drift errors

Service Information The beam-balance determines the stroke profiles at the maximum pixel level and the minimum pixel level. A target profile is then calculated based on the NVS parameters med <media index> beamslope, med <media index> beamcurve, med <media index> scorr <spot pair> and the stroke profiles. This error indicates that the stroke profiles at the maximum pixel level and minimum pixel level were drifting sufficiently to prevent a consistent target profile.

Enabling the verbose information for the beam-balance sensor subsystem will display the results of the three coarse balance iterations and six fine balance iterations. This information will include the pixel level and errors for the final fine balance iteration.

Typically the beam-balance will succeed if the NVS parameter bbs maximumerror is increased or the NVS parameters med <media index> beamslope or med <media index> beamcurve are decreased.

Operator Action Call service.

Causes
  • The beam-balance could not achieve a consistent target profile.

Troubleshooting information

Possible cause

During beam balance, the head tries to obtain a target profile from the maximum and minimum profiles. If the maximum and minimum pixel levels drift, this error is produced.

This may be due to Numb End Disease (NED) or not enough beam-ready time.

Suggested action

  1. Check that the beam-ready time is 40 seconds or more. Use the command: TH2> set h1c
  2. Determine if this happens during the first plot of the day. If this is the case, it may be related to the laser temperature (the laser is too cold).
  3. Enable verbose for BBSRun.spt and BBSprofile.spt. Check the profile for NED.
  4. If you find NED, then increase the maximum error.
  5. Depending on the bbsprofile results, consider a head replacement.
