Thermal2 Command
bbs balance [nocal]

Description Perform a beam-balance ( blocking ) and initialize the stroke table. Note that the monitor command bbs mode (initialize|query|abort) and the monitor command bbs balance [nocal] perform an identical beam-balance. However the monitor command bbs mode (initialize|query|abort) performs a non-blocking beam-balance while the monitor command bbs balance [nocal] performs a blocking beam-balance. The non-blocking beam-balance is intended to allow the host to perform a beam-balance while executing other functionality ( i.e. initializing the focus ).

A beam-balance is performed by determining the stroke profiles at the maximum pixel level and the minimum pixel level. A target profile is then calculated based on the NVS parameters med <media index> beamslope, med <media index> beamcurve, med <media index> scorr <spot pair> and the stroke profiles. The beam-balance then attempts to set the pixel level for all pixel pairs in the stroke such that the stroke profile matches the target profile within the error configured by the NVS parameter bbs maximumerror.

The automatic beam-balance sensor configuration sets the pixel pair in the center of the stroke to provide a pixel power of 1000 counts at the maximum pixel level. If required ( for development purposes only ), the automatic beam-balance sensor configuration can be disabled by the optional token nocal. Note that the sensor selection will always be set for high gain by the beam-balance.

If the beam-balance is successful, the stroke table is automatically saved by the NVS parameter med <media index> stroke <spot pair>.

Note that the beam-balance will close the shutter. However, the beam-balance will not configure the laser diode driver, beam-pointing driver or light valve driver.

Notes Thermal 1.0 / 1.7x equivalents:
  • The monitor command bbs balance [nocal] is comparable to stroke cal.
  • Unlike the monitor command stroke cal, bbs balance [nocal] does not turn on the laser.
  • The beam-balance sensor is configured automatically; there are no equivalents for the NVS parameters head bpgain and head bpoffset.
