EH.PWR signal is unavailable on some Thermal 2 heads.

Product

  Thermal 2 Head

Machines affected

  • Thermal 2 Head
  • Trendsetter NEWS
  • Lotem Quantum

Error

EH.PWR signal is unavailable on some Thermal 2 heads.

Symptoms

On some systems, the absence of this signal will cause a flag, such as Exposure Head Power, to be asserted. If this flag is asserted and is not masked it will generate an error message.

On the MCE Quantum system, the error will be "[System Presence Fault: Exposure head logic power presence (EH_&LogicPower) Not Detected]".
On other devices, a variant of this message will be reported, such as "[Power Supply Failure: Exposure Head Power]".

Cause

This signal is a +5V level that is sent from the exposure head back to the MPE/MCE to tell the device that the head has power applied. It is generally not used.

Although the EH.PWR signal is present on all heads produced now, there are several hundred in the field that do not have this signal.

Solution

On systems where the Exposure Head Power flag appears, the flag should be masked.

Procedure:

MPE-Based Trendsetter NEWS:

  1. To check if the flag is masked, type mask.
  2. On a Trendsetter NEWS B1 with MPE firmware V1.16 the flag is number 18 (Exposure Head Power). It appears with an asterisk (*) beside it if it is masked. Sample results.
  3. If the flag is asserted but not yet masked, mask it by typing
    mask on ##
where ## is the number corresponding to the flag. Note that it is not always 18 on MPE-based systems.

Lotem Quantum:

  1. Set the access level by typing QUANTUM>>access dev.
  2. Type the command mask all.
  3. On a Lotem Quantum with MCE firmware V1.20 the flag is number 4 (Exposure head logic power presence). It appears with an asterisk (*) beside it if it is masked. Sample results.
  4. If the flag is asserted but not yet masked, mask it by typing
    mask on 4.
