The auto focus servo subsystem firmware must update the lens tube actuator position drive control once every 100 microseconds. Hardware within the Thermal 3 head maintains counters and logic to check that the firmware meets this update time specification. If the update time is ever exceeded even once, the auto focus servo system shuts down and enters an 'idle' mode where the actuator amplifier is disabled and the lens tube position is no longer under active servo control.

| Although this error is unlikely to occur in the field, it could occur under several circumstances and is not necessarily dependent on any particular monitor command. The error falls into a 'grey area' between a 'hardware' and 'software' error. It is possible that a side effect from a firmware subsystem other than focus has caused this error to be manifest.
| Once this error occurs all focus monitor commands that would normally cause movement of the focus lens tube will fail except the 'foc init' command. The foc init command will clear this error and attempt to reestablish normal lens tube servo control.
| This error indicates a firmware scheduling problem which could have a wide variety of complex causes having related to interaction between hardware and various firmware subsystems. It is best to try and recreate the conditions that lead up to this error and work with firmware developers to find a solution.
