29 Dec 2003: PCI 4-channel Ultra3 SCSI RAID Adapter More...

The EXP RAID adapter consists of two parts. However, IBM has an FRU P/N for each part separately and not for the entire assembly:

To simplify the dealings with IBM in case of part repair, the CSCs will need to deal with only one top number, 609-00164, which is the PCI 4-CHANNEL Ultra3 SCSI RAID adapter. When needed, the CSC will send the entire faulty adapter to CIL, and CIL will approach IBM regarding the part repair.

02 Apr 2003: Behaviour of the indicator LEDs on the front of the EV 5000 cache battery More...

Question:
I'd like an explanation of the behaviour of the indicator LEDs ont the front of the EV 5000 cache battery. In the past, after inserting the new battery, all LEDs stay off. After some minutes, the two green LEDs light up and stay lit, unless there is a fault indicated by the amber LEDs. Recently, I received a new replacement battery which behaved differently. After battery insertion into the controller cage the two green LEDs started to flicker in a fixed rhythm, until after some minutes they stayed on. Was there a change in the LED wiring lately? It may lead someone to believe that there is a fault when the green LEDs start to flicker after battery replacement. What are the possible states indicated by the 4 LEDs?

DDN's reply:
The last batch of CBB-5 batteries we bought last year from LSI were new a revision. The old batteries were very heavy because they used four internal batteries whereas the new ones only use two. When they made this change, they also updated minor aspects of the board function. The only difference appears to be the blinking light during recharge. This will go out when it is at full charge.
