Installing a Proofer (43P)

Connecting a Proofer

This option requires a license.

To connect the Proofer:

  1. Power off the Proofer and the Brisque.
  2. Connect one end of the SCSI (Cat#199D50450) cable to the Proofer and the other end to the SCSI U-F&W board [12].
  3. Ensure that there is correct termination, as follows:
  4. Connect the Remote Diagnostic RS 232 cable between com1 and the RS 232 connector in the proofer .
  5. Power on the Proofer and then power on the Brisque.
  6. Verify through SciSmit that the Proofer appears correctly in the List of Defined Disks, as described in Verifying the Proofer SCSI Connection.

Verify the Smart Jet SCSI ID:

To verify the Smart Jet SCSI ID:

  1. At the Proofer Front Panel, click the Setup button from the Main menu to open the Setup menu.
  2. Click the Set SCSI ID button. The Set SCSI ID menu appears, displaying the current SCSI ID number.
  3. Write down the SCSI ID number for future reference.

The factory set default SCSI ID number is 5.

Verifying the Realist SCSI ID

This procedure is applicable to the following proofers:

To verify the Proofer SCSI ID:

  1. Open the fluids door. The SCSI ID selector dial is located on the CPU module on the left side of the printer above the diskette drive.

round.gif (3114 bytes)

The printer is shipped with the default SCSI ID set to 5. If you have other SCSI devices attached to the host (CD-ROM, multiple hard disks, etc.), ensure that they each have a different SCSI ID.
  1. To change the SCSI ID, turn the dial to the right or left.

Verifying the Proofer SCSI Connection

To verify the Proofer SCSI connection:

  1. Ensure that the Brisque is powered on.
  2. From the Launch Pad, open the Services subpanel.
  3. Double-click the SMIT icon to open the Password dialog.
  4. Type root in the User field and your password in the Password field (default ripro) and then press Enter.
  5. The System Management Interface Tool (SMIT) window appears, displaying the System Management main menu.

  6. Select Devices -> List All Defined Disks.
  7. The List All Defined Disks window appears, displaying all the system’s defined disks in the Output area (including the proofers).

In the event that there is a clash of SCSI addresses, the proofers do not appear.

  1. Verify that the proofer appears in the Output area.
  2. Click Done and then click Exit to exit SMIT.

Verifying Proofer Installation via the Realist Controller

  1. From the Launch Pad open the Services panel and then double-click the Realist icon.
  2. If the Proofer is configured properly, the name of the Proofer appears in the header of the Controller window.

If the Realist Controller is not defined as idle and not configured properly, a message will appear - "searching for printer."

  3. Check the SCSI ID to verify that there are no clashes.
  4. If the Realist is not recognized, check the SCSI connections and then shut down the Brisque and reboot.
  5. Perform Step 1 again.

Scitex Proofing Zone Configuration

The CreoScitex Proofing Zone (SPZ) is a color mode that supports ICC profiles created for specific proofers and is part of the color management system for IRIS proofers. The CreoScitex Proofing Zone uses a database that includes all color information relevant to the IRIS proofers and can be located either on the local Brisque or on a remote Brisque or Mac.

The database must be activated in order to send proofs to an IRIS proofer, and CreoScitex Proofing Zone configuration enables you to determine where the database will be located.

IMPORTANT: It is important to successfully verify the proofer SCSI connection before configuring the CreoScitex Proofing Zone (refer to Verifying the Realist SCSI ID).

To configure the CreoScitex Proofing Zone:

  1. From the Launch Pad, open the Setup subpanel.
  2. setup.gif (5852 bytes)

  3. Double-click the Config icon to open the Config window.
  4. config.gif (22533 bytes)

  5. Click the Proof icon to open the Proofer Configuration window.
  6. proofer.gif (11436 bytes)

  7. Click the DataBase icon. The Proofer Configuration window now appears as follows, displaying database configuration parameters.
  8. proofer2.gif (10545 bytes)

  9. (For first-time configuration) Click the Set button to open the Data Base Location window.
  10. base2.gif (5289 bytes)

  11. Select the database location from the list of connected stations (Brisque or Mac) or type in the location in the Station name field.

It is recommended to establish the database on the Brisque.

  1. Click OK to return to the Proofer Configuration window.
  2. The following information message appears:

"DataBase location was changed. If the DSP calibration dialog is open – you should close it and reopen."

(For first-time configuration) Then the Proofer Name dialog opens

  3. Enter a logical name for the IRIS proofer. (This name will be saved in the database).

For a second-time or later connection to the same proofer, the proofer name appears automatically.

  1. Click OK to complete the operation. The database is now active.

For Proofers not supporting the SPZ.

  1. Complete Steps 1 through 7 in the previous procedure.
For Proofers not supporting the Scitex Proofing Zone (including the SmartJet and the IRIS 3000), once the database location is set, the database is active.
  1. Select OK. The database is now active.
