RIPing with RIP Level 3 changes the image colors in Brisque 3.0.38

Product

Brisque 3.038 Update CD 2

Platform

  • E30 - Victory
  • 43P-140 Tiger 1
  • 43P-150 Tiger 2
  • F50 - Wildcat (2 and 4 CPUs)

Operating system

IBM AIX 4.2.1

Symptoms

When using RIP level 3 (Extreme version 1.34), on the Brisque, the image color is slightly different from the original image.

Cause

PostScript Level 3 RIP supports several new features from Adobe and one of them is ICC Profiles and PostScript Color Management.

If a file is saved in PhotoShop 5 and above as an EPS with the PostScript Color Management option selected, the Level 3 RIP will read this profile from the file and use it during the RIP process.

Solution

Use one of the following solutions
  • In Photoshop, resave the file making sure to clear the PostScript Color Management option.
  • RIP the file with RIP Level 2.
Note:
  • When you open this kind of EPS in PhotoShop, and resave it, the PostScript Color Management option will be selected or cleared according to the last time it was used. Its setting will not be according to the way the file was saved before.
  • In the next Extreme version, you will have the option to select, or clear, the Ignore Input Profiles option, from the Color Handling dialog box accessed via the RIP window. This will enable Brisque to ignore the profiles that were saved with the file.
