| NOTES: This is a wide-format forms proofer that accepts HP-RTL files. The 42e/60e is an earlier model of the 600e and is no longer sold by Encad. Be forewarned that some early Encad plotters were known to be incompatible with some RTL formats, so with very old Encads, the dropping of a test file may be prudent. | |
| What type of proofer is this? | |
| These Encad models are signature (forms) proofers aka wide-format inkjets. They are not supposed to be used as contract proofers but that doesn't stop some printers from trying (no, we don't support it as a contract proofer). They accept 300 dpi output. All of the models listed above are no longer sold by Encad, having been replaced with the 630 and 700 models. | |
| Connectivity: | |
| An Ethernet card so that the plotter has it's own TCP/IP number. That way, from Windows NT you can make a NT Print Device using LPD (Line Printer Daemon). Then, spool HP-RTL data to the printer queue. Of course, a connection is technically possible via the parallel port of a PC or Mac, but you don't really see that in the field, and you're not allowed to use the parallel port on the back of a CREO box. | |
| Performance: | |
| Unknown or we should say, nobody's complained yet. Encad claim their newer inkjets, the 630 and 700 use unique MicroBurst technology that makes them up to 100% faster than other inkjets. Oooo, ahhh. | |
| Usage: | |
| Lake Book Press a customer migrating to Prinergy from Platemaster, has an Encad 600e. A test file was dropped before the install and the customer signed off. | |
