| NOTES: This
machine is capable of producing film OR proofs imaged on Imation
Matchprint media, which is why you find it in the proofing library.
Since the front end of this workstation is a PEARLrip that is OEM'ed
from Harlequin, it can easily accept DCS 2.0 raster file from
Prinergy.
WARNING: The PEARLrip workstation comes with a basic 256 MB of RAM, and you should instruct the customer to upgrade to 512 MB of RAM in order to drive the PEARLhdp74 at engine speed. |
|
| What type of proofer is this? | |
| It is a contract proofer that can also make film. Think of it as an imagesetter with a built-in Matchprint maker. The maximum image size is 510 mm x 740 mm (20" x 29.134"). The resolution can be 1270, 2032, or 2540 dpi. | |
| Connectivity: | |
| Set up a hot folder from the PEARLrip and feed it a DCS 2.0 file from Prinergy. Interestingly, most of the standard page setups in the PEARLrip are already set up to handle direct DCS input. You can also spool Prinergy TIFFs to the PEARLrip but you lose the plate color comments. This can cause problems downstream for the operator because he/she, when making a proof, has no way of matching the separated data to the proper Matchprint media. | |
| Performance: | |
| Presstek states that a four-color proofing cycle takes about 32 minutes, give or take. A four-up letter, four-color file from Prinergy should take no longer than one half hour to RIP, with an average RIP that should be under 20 minutes. So we can drive the machine at engine speed. | |
| Usage: | |
| N/A | |
| Limitations: | |
| None, except for the limitation noted above. It's a slow machine compared to other proofers (a half-hour to make a proof, not including the time spent to do manual assembly). It is conceivable that it could take as long as one hour to make the first proof of the day (half-hour to RIP, half-hour to make a proof), but if the customer is queueing up jobs, then it should only take one half-hour each from then on. | |
