Cause |
1) Reading the error, it is saying that on the Host Adapter #1, device ID 3 is having some communication problem (could be the device is timing out on the Host Adapter). You can verify which device this is in the Registry's \\HKLM\.HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\SCSI\ScsiPort1 key. 2) CIOArrayManagement is a SNMP agent (service) that monitors all Adpatec SCSI controller activity on all DELL servers. It's preloaded on all W2K images to allow the system to self-monitor all of its components, and to warn the user of the potential problems/errors occurring on any given SCSI bus or host adapter. These agents are loaded to prepare for future implementation of remote diagnostic tools to allow RC personnel to dial-in to a system and examine the system health so that they can warn the customer in advance about a potential RAM/Disk/SCSI device failure, and so that an advanced replacement/fix can be performed before the problem actually occurs. If you suspect these agents are contributors to some of your problems, you can safely turn them off to help isolating whatever problems you may have. |

Solution |
Follow the procedure described in the document "Upgrading Dell Server Agent" (http://techplanet.creo.com/idoc/72/3650A/A/72-3650A-A-PR01.pdf). This document describes how to upgrade the Dell OpenManage Server Management Agents and Tools for Dell systems running Windows 2000. It describes how to upgrade the OpenManage Server Agent, Adaptec CI/O Array Management Service, and IT Assistant to Server Agent V4.3 and IT Assistant V6.0.1. The CI/O Array Management service is removed in this upgrade, and will no longer generate unnecessary error messages. After the upgrade, if the device is not functioning, then both the host and the device need be investigated further to determine which component is faulty. Permanent fix: |
