The cutter housing assembly (Cat. No.507A34606) is located on
the area of the loading assembly where the assembly meets the drum. It is replaced as a
unit and it is defined as a kit for field service.
Take the new cutter assembly and with one hand tilt the
pressure bearing out. Put the assembly back in place.
Thread the cutter shaft back into place and lock the set
screw. Align the shaft to the mark on the shaft you struck before disassembly. Bring this
mark as close as possible to the original mark.
Tighten the set screw.
Assemble the chain to the cutter. Adjust the hooks on the
cutter base in order to tighten them.
Make sure that chain tension is set so that the chain cannot
release from the sprockets.
Slide the loading system in place. Close the track locks.
Return the loading system back to its place and close the
lockers.
Put the film cassettes back in their compartment.
Check
and Test
Power on the Imagesetter.
Activate the cutter through the diagnostic program DIAG/UTIL.
Operate the cutter several times and check for smooth operation.
Close the light-protective covers, the side service doors, and
the loading system doors.
The cutter position detectors are located at the front of the
loading system, under the cutter shaft. The detectors are opto-switches and they detect
the left and right position of the cutter movement.
Open the loading system doors and pull out the three film
cassettes.
Open the lockers of the loading system and pull the loading
system out as much as you can while not pulling it off the tracks. Do not pull the loading
system completely out of the machine.
Disconnect the connections to the detector.
Move the cutter housing away from the detector if it is
interfering with the work.
Open the Hd cap st-st #6-32 x 1/2" screw that holds the
detector to the bracket.
The cutter shaft assembly (#68) is located on the area of the
loading assembly where the assembly meets the drum. The shaft is the axis on which the
cutter housing travels back and forth along the loading and unloading assembly. It is
replaced as a unit and it is defined as a kit for field service.
A cutter motor (Cat. No. 507C34616) drives a cable chain that
is connected to the cutter housing. A second chain is mounted on a bottom track. This
chain keeps the cutter in its correct position.
Check that the new cutter shaft is rust free and that no
visual warps, scratches or defects are seen on it.
Slide the shaft into the left side support on the loading
system and then into the opening on the cutter assembly.
Manually move the cutter assembly from side to side while
tilting the shaft on its axis. Find the spot in which the cutter moves with uniform
friction along the shaft.
Note: The figure shows the shaft on the cutter and finding the correct spot.
The Cutter Chain is located in the front part of the loading
system. Its function is to move the Cutter Assembly from side to side along the Cutter
Shaft.
Take the new chain and put it into place around the sprockets
and place the edges on the hooks of the cutter housing. If it is too loose, move to the
next tooth. If it is still too loose, cut the chain to the size required.
Tighten the chain by moving the hooks.
Lock the screws.
Manually move the Cutter Housing Assembly from side to side.
Check for smooth operation.
If the chain is jumping on the teeth of the sprockets, check:
a. if the chain is too tight
b. if the sprockets are in the correct place parallel to the chain.
Loosen the chain or correct the position of the sprockets as necessary.
The cutter motor assembly is located in the front of the
loading system on the left side. The cutter motor assembly is responsible for driving the
Cutter Housing Assembly from one side to the other via a chain.
