Load and unload film and make sure that no scratches appear
and the film is not touching the lead screw.
Check the presssure of the pressure rollers on the spreader.
Load film from the cassette located on the other side of the
dynamic optic and check that it is not banded or wrinkled. Try to use the end of the film
roll.
Expose the film and check that the rubber wire is not omitting
shades. If there are shades present, shorten the wire and try again.
The spreader should not touch the drum in the up position
without the film and should lightly touch the film. If adjustment is needed, remove it
from the plotter and adjust each of the wheels to be approximately 1mm below the top
position. The spreader assembly shoud be parallel to the drum.
The wheels are adjusted by screw #172. Locking the screw will
press the wheels out while releasing the screw will free the wheels. Rotate the screw till
the wheels are in the top position and release ti to 1mm below the top position.
Make sure that the wheels do not cause any scratches.
Make sure that the wheels do not rotate when there is no film
on the drum (in the up position) and that they will roll freely on the film (should
lightly touch the film).
The film spreader motor (#35) drives the chain located on the
left flange (#1) of the imagesetter drum. The chain drives the film spreader mechanism.
The film spreader and the vacuum system work together to hold the film to the inner
surface of the drum.
Release (do not remove) the screws (#30,23,24) that hold the
two tension brackets (#31).
Unscrew the phillips screw (#116) that holds the chain to the
flange.
Release the chain from the flange (#1) and the motor system.
Remove the screw (#23,24,30) on the sensor plate (#36).
Measure the distance of the motor sprocket from the motor and
write it down so that you may reference this when re-assembling. Remove the sprocket (#32)
from the motor shaft.
Remove the back cover of the motor. Mark and disconnect the
wires on the back of the motor.
Remove the motor mount screws. Be careful not to remove the
mounting plate (#18) screws (#27,28,29).
Assemble the sprocket (#32) in position on the shaft at the
distance measured when you dismantled the motor. (step 5 of 'Disassembling the Film
Spreader Motor')
Re-assemble the chain.
Check that the chain is in a parallel line between the flange
and the motor shaft sprocket (#32). If there is a problem, open the set screw in the
sprocket (#32) on the motor shaft.
Adjust the encoder wheel (#34) so that it is centered on the
encoder auto-coupler (sensor).
Connect the motor wires on the motor and put back the cover.
The film spreader chain is located on the left flange (#1) of
the imagesetter drum. The chain drives the film spreader mechanism. The film spreader and
the vacuum system work together to hold the film to the inner surface of the drum.
Measure a length of new chain against the old chain. The
acceptable chain length of the new chain is a that of the old chain plus two links.
Assemble the chain on the flange. Lead the chain over the
tension bracket sprocket (#19) and the motor shaft sprocket (#32). Screw the chain onto
the flange with the phillips screw (#166).
Set the tension on the chain by moving the two tension
brackets (#31).
Once the tension is set, tighten the tension brackets.
Check that the chain is not twisted.
Check that the chain is in a parallel line between the flange
and the motor shaft sprocket (#32). If there is a problem, open the set screw in the
sprocket (#32) on the motor shaft.
