Description

The film clamp assembly (Cat No. 507F34618) (#65) is located on the area of the loading assembly where the assembly meets the drum. The purpose of the clamp is to immobilize the film while the cutter shears the film. It is replaced as a unit and it is defined as a kit for field service.

Section of 7 mil film

Disassembling the Film Clamp Assembly

  1. Remove the loading/unloading system.

  2. Without disconnecting the electronics harness, disassemble the cutter assembly. See Film Cutter Housing Disassembly.

  3. The film clamp is secured by four socket head screws (1/4 -20x7/8) and spring L/W 1/4", two in each side. Unscrew them.

  4. Gently pull the film clamp assembly out. Apply just enough force to remove the clamp.

  5. Disassemble the lower silver strip, secured with 11 screws.

Assembling the Film Clamp Assembly

  1. With the assembly still outside of the loading system, take a section of film 200 x 150 mm. You must check that the clamp operates with equal force along its entire length. Place the film between the clamps in different places along the length of the clamp.

  2. Assemble the lower silver strip.

  3. Gently push the clamp assembly into place. Tighten the four screws
1/4- 20x7/8" with spring L/W 1/4", two on each side.

  4. Re-assemble the film cutter assembly.

  5. Check that the left and right side lifter are adjusted correctly. Move the cutter by hand to the left side and see if the film clamp is open enough to let a piece of film passes freely through the slot. If not, move the cutter housing assembly to the middle of the cutter shaft. Dismantle the left side lifter and put a spacer under it. The spacer could be made from 7 mil. film. Check again until an acceptable tension is achieved on the clamp slot.

  6. Repeat the previous paragraph for the right side lifter.

  7. Check that the cutter is moving smoothly from side to side.

  8. Slide the loading system in place. Close the track locks.

  9. Return the loading system back to its place and close the lockers.

  10. Put the film cassettes back in their compartment.

Check and Test

  1. Power on the Imagesetter.

  2. Close the light-protective covers, the side service doors, and the loading system doors.

  3. Load a length of film 400 mm from each cassette. Check for smooth operation.
