Loading New Film
The Dolev 800 has three "smart" loading cassettes. Information about the loading media is handled by the cassette board assembly (503A30123).
Loading Cassette #1 (large)
Loading Cassette #2 (medium)
Loading Cassette #3 (small)
The cassette consists of mounting rims and a film spool. The mounting rim consists of two sections: an inner ring that secures the rim to the spool, and an outer ring. Twist the inner ring to remove the rim from the spool.
The film spool has two mounting rims: The right mounting rim is loosened and removed to load new film. The left mounting rim is a fixed flange and is used to position the cardboard film tube onto the cassette film rod. The fixed flange has four magnets, each set into a recess along the circumference of the mounting rim. When film is loaded onto the imagesetter, the mounting rim rotates.
A magnet sensor on the outside of the cassette records each 1/4 rotation of the mounting rim. This system is used to detect film on the film tube. Once the film tube is empty, the mounting rim stops turning and the sensor sends a message to the OMC board.
The OMC board stops the Feeder Motor and aborts the film load. The purpose of this mechanism is to prevent the case in which there is enough film for the exposure, but no film remains in the cassette. The problem is the small strip of film that rests between the loading cassette and the driving wheels.
Dolev 800 media maximum sizes are:
Tolerance of - 1.6mm (-0.06 inch) and a length of 200 ft.
0.004 inch film thickness, Medium to high contrast red sensitive film, paper or plates, film width Width (inches) 10/12/14/16/18/20/22/24/26/30/32/33.
New film arrives from the manufacturer rolled onto a cardboard tube. Film is brought to a darkroom and installed on the loading cassette. The cassette is then brought to Dolev 800 and loaded.
