Punch Installation

Assembling Punch on Bar

The installation of punches covers the procedure for installing or repositioning customer punches but not the spiral punch which is supplied with the machine. The machine is supplied with a spiral punch, 2 Stop pins and 4 Plate supports with guide wheels.

The 2 Stop pins ensure that the plate is positioned parallel to the drum before punching. The 4 Plate supports with guide wheels guide the plate onto the drum after it has been punched.

Assembling Punch on Bar

Nine (9) customer punches can be installed on the machine. The pitch between punches is determined by the press system, such as a Heidelberg press or a custom punch configuration system.

  1. Position punch on bar and place diamond nut into the T-slot on the punch bar.
  2. Tighten the screw connecting the punch to the diamond nut. The diamond nut also turns until it comes into contact with the wall of the T-slot. Continue tightening the screw until the punch is secured firmly in place on the bar.
  3. For example, in the punch installation for Heidelberg, where punch pitch is 780 mm (between centers), the following calculation is used: 780/2=390 mm.
  4. Take all measurements from the ruler on the punch bar.
  5. Each punch housing is 28 mm wide.
  6. Locate 0 on the ruler (this is also the center of the drum). This measures to the outer side of the punch. The center of the punch housing is in fact 14 mm less - the inner side of the punch must be on the 376 mm ruler line (390 - 14 = 376).
  7. Similarly, position the second punch on the other side of the 0 mark.
  8. The inner of edge of each punch housing must be 376 mm from the 0 mark.
  9. If a Stop pin or a Plate support interfere with the positioning of a punch, they can be moved by simply opening the retaining screw and moving them to the left or the right of the punch.
  10. Connect the electrical cable and the earth cable from each punch to the cable attached to the punch bar. The plate support can move +30 mm.

Note: See "Punch configuration setting" in "Customer Configuration Setting".
