Preventive maintenance should be performed on the cooling system every 6 months.
Check that the strainer is free of debris, which implies that dirt is present
in the coolant system, by following the Strainer
Preventive Maintenance procedure. If there is debris in the strainer,
the color of the coolant may darken from pink to purple. This indicates that
the pump may be worn and that debris entered the system. In this case, drain
the cooling liquid, and replace all cooling system parts (pump, reservoir,
hoses and radiator). Before assembling the parts, apply air pressure through
the head to clean it. When assembling the cooling system, make sure that no
debris enters the system, and then refill the reservoir with clean coolant.
Check for leakage by touching the area under the pump. If the area under
the pump is wet, replace the pump
and reservoir, and then refill the reservoir with clean coolant.
Check that the cooling system reservoir is full of liquid and that there
is no leakage from the system by following the Cooling
System Pressure Test procedure.
Check that the cooling system reservoir is not fractured and that there
is no leakage from the connectors. If the reservoir is fractured or there
is leakage from the connectors, perform the Cooling
System Pressure Test procedure.
Make sure the water pump's motor is oiled on an annual basis as described
in the Oiling the Water Pump's Motor procedure.
