    Debris removal nozzle

    Symptoms

When performing a wide focus test, the debris removal nozzle may collide with the drum. This can cause severe damage to the drum, head, plate and the debris removal nozzle.

    Cause

The debris removal nozzle is normally set at distance of 0.5 mm from the plate.

However, when performing a wide focus test with a large focus motor range, the 0.5 mm distance between the nozzle and the plate is not great enough to prevent the nozzle from colliding with the plate.

    Solution

Before performing a wide focus test, make sure that the distance between the nozzle and the plate is sufficient enough to prevent a collision.

To increase the distance between the nozzle and the plate, do the following:

    1. Release, but do not remove, the two screws securing the debris removal nozzle:

    2. Move the debris removal nozzle to the maximum distance possible from the plate.
    3. Tighten the screws.
    4. Perform the wide focus test.
    5. Send the motor to home position and then send the carriage to the middle of the V-block.
    6. Load a plate onto the middle of the drum.
    7. Place an interlock defeater for the rear door.
    8. Send the focus motor to the original position it was in when the current plate thickness was calibrated on the drum.
    9. Remove the interlock defeater. (If the defeater is not removed, the focus motor will return to home position as soon as the anti-collision detector is triggered.)
    10. Adjust the debris removal nozzle.
    11. Clean the lens.
    12. Verify, and if required, adjust the anti-collision detector.
