Description

This controlled release includes Thermal Head firmware version 1.93 and Media Console version 1.2.3 for Dupont customers.

Major features and fixes

This controlled release updates Thermal Head firmware to version 1.93 and Media Console to version 1.2.3 for Dupont customers.

NOTE: The W2K SP4 (Windows 2000 Service Pack 4) Self Install kit should be used for updating older device control workstations because Service Shell 2.5 requires IE6 (Internet Explorer 6). This should be done before the upgrade tasks listed below.

Time and Order to install and/or upgrade from previous release

Install in the order given. Total time - 4 hours (minimum).
Review the Dependencies before beginning. For more information see the release notes for each component.

Limitations

• Brisque Direct - Brisque Agent (build 53) is only compatible with Brisque ver. 4.1
• Media Console 1.2.1 - New Database that is not compatible with MC 1.x database (no upgrade path – must be manually done by Service Tools team)
• DEC Alpha not supported for Print Console
• DEC Alpha not supported for Service Shell
• Older Dell and Data General workstations may have inadequate performance.
• Manual mode proofing works only with Print Console (Allegro does not support manual mode proofing)

Dependencies

• Windows 2000 SP2 or Windows 2000 Server SP4 operating system on workstation
• Brisque 4.1.76 or higher
• Ultra 39160 Low voltage SCSI card in workstation or TSP card for Brisque

Workflow compatibility

Workflow items are not part of the release, but have been tested for compatibility.

• Prinergy 2.1.0: GDAPI connection tested.
• Brisque: GDAPI connection tested using TSP with version 4.1. If Print Console is upgraded from ver 3.4 or below, the Brisque lookup tables update must be loaded or the device will not be recognized. See the "Brisque Direct Update.txt" patch file in the root of the Controlled Release CD for instructions on doing this.
• Allegro: TIFF connectivity available with Allegro Console 2.1.
• TIFF Workflows: Tested with a range of test files from various systems.
• CRI Workflows: Not available. CRI is no longer supported with Print Console 2.1 and later.

Known problems

Automatic load calibrate does not work.
The release notes for the MCE firmware included in this CR instruct you to enter command load cal to have the device set the mh DistSensorToLEC parameter during an automatic load. However, there are two problems with this command. First, it should be load calibrate (assuming the previous load was an automatic load), and second, this command does not work in this firmware release. The plate is picked, but the picker never goes down and the device “hangs.” Thus, it is necessary to do a manual load calibrate to set the mh DistSensorToLEC parameter:

1. In Service Shell's command box, enter the manual load calibrate command for the plate size you will be loading. For example:
   load m 570 s 378 mi 2 ms 2 manual calibrate
2. Manually load a plate of the dimensions you entered in step 1.
   The mh DistSensorToLEC parameter is set and automatically saved during the load when the plate is wrapped on the drum and the device measures its mainscan size.
