Offset the weight of the TECs. The position of the balance weight is checked,
and moved if necessary, during plate loading. There is a different drum balance
assembly on each end of the drum.
Balance weight 1 is at the drive end.
Balance weight 2 is at the encoder end.
The main components of the balance weight assemblies are:
Offset the weight of the TEC. The weights are spring loaded to fit
into a series of detents around the drum.
The weights are mounted on a moveable ring with three bearings. The
bearings run in Aluminum-bronze races press fitted to hubs on each end
of the drum.
Each weights is held in place by a detent pin that engages with
slots on the drum assembly. For each end of the drum, the extension of
the drum balance actuation cylinder releases the detent and holds the
balance assembly in place such that upon spinning the drum the weights
can be moved relative to the drum.
There are 36 detent positions around the drum. The distance between
each detent is 1000 encoder ticks.
Retrieve and insert the weight in a detent position. The release tip
at the end of the cylinder fits into the weight. Mounted to the clamp
plate assembly on the encoder end. Mounted to the drum pin pillow block
on the drive end.
Hall effect sensor
Detects the extend position of the balance weight actuator.
In future units, both the extend and retract positions will be
checked.
Reed switch
Detects the presence of the balance weight. The reed switch is
activated by a small magnet. The magnet for the encoder end is mounted
on the balance weight assembly. The magnet for the pulley end is glued
on the weight. The switch is on the actuating cylinder mounting bracket
