Service Information The beam-balance attempts to set the pixel level for all pixel pairs in the stroke such that the stroke profile matches the target profile within the error configured by the NVS parameter bbs maximumerror. This error indicates that six fine balance iterations were not able to achieve a stroke profile that matches the target profile.

Enabling the verbose information for the beam-balance sensor subsystem will display the results of the coarse balance and six fine balance iterations. This information will include the pixel level and errors for the final fine balance iteration.

Typically the beam-balance will succeed if the NVS parameter bbs maximumerror is increased or the NVS parameters med <media index> beamslope or med <media index> beamcurve are decreased.

Troubleshooting information

Possible cause

  
  • The Mean Absolute Error (MAE) is greater than 4. This value is hard coded, and may be due to Numb End Disease (NED).
  • The characteristics of the light valve may have changed and therefore the voltage setting may no longer be valid.

Suggested action

  
  1. Follow the procedure in Maintaining the contrast ratio on a Thermal 2 head when stroke profile is poor.
  2. Check that the brt (beam-ready time) is at least 40 seconds.
  3. Check the laser temperature when the error occurs.
  4. Determine if this happens at the first plot of the day. If so, run bbsprofile.spt and check for NED.
