Kodak Approval

Usage

When outputting FM screened data to the Kodak Approval via the Harlequin RIP, check the process plan to make sure compression of output images is turned off on the Device tab. With compression turned on, the random nature of the FM screens causes the output image to balloon in size and overload the Harlequin RIP. FM screens do not compress well, and compression is not required. (Tested on a Prinergy 1.1 system feeding a Kodak Approval Classic via Harlequin RIP).

Note: For AIT version 2.1 and earlier, when generating DCS-2 files in Prinergy, you must turn off the Add TIFF Preview to DCS Master File setting. This setting can be found in the File Format tab of the process plan. This is not necessary in AIT 2.5 or later.

Connectivity

For Kodak Approvals that are running the AIT-2 (or newer) device control software, it is best to send DCS Raster files from Prinergy that are screened at the device resolution (2400 or 2540). For older Approvals that use a Harlequin RIP as the front-end, read the document "Kodak Approval and Prinergy Connectivity" listed below.
