The lens housing assembly (#107) is located on the dynamic optics. The lens assembly
contains the lens housing adaptor (#102), the tilting plate base (#108), fiber optic
assembly (#109), F-80 lens assembly (#114), F-250 lens assembly (#115), Dynamic
Collimation and Focus Assembly (#203).
A field replacement is required in the case of a break in the fiber optics cable, or if
the lens suffers severe scratches.
Power off the imagesetter using the control panel ON/OFF
switch.
Open the left and right service doors. Remove the light-proof
covers.
The replacement requires good lighting. Set up a light stand
or some other method of providing sufficient lighting.
Remove the shutter protector (#225)
Disconnect the shutter cable connector (#14, 15, 16).
Remove the cable cover (#206, 207, 208) from the carriage.
Mark the position of the cable cover on the carriage.
Release the Allen screw that holds the shutter assembly (#204)
to the lens housing.
Gently lift up the shutter and place it on the clean lint free
cloth.
Disassemble the cable harness support from the optics path.
Remove the fiber optic cable from the main harness.
Disconnect the fiber optic cable from the fiber optic adaptor
(#109).
Dismantle the flag of the end position detector from the lens
housing assembly.
Unscrew the two screws (#210) that hold the lens housing
adaptor to the carriage. Mark (either with permanent marker, adhesive strip or tiny
scratch) the position of the adaptor on the carriage.
Before removing the assembly, make sure to take a reference
measurement using the Bow adjustment jig of the housing position.
Note: Remove the assembly consisting of the lens
housing with the fiber optic.
Assemble the lens housing assy (#102) (at the place marked
during disassembly.)
Tighten the lens housing adaptor screws (#210) until they make
contact. Do not over-tighten. Use loctite to hold them in position.
Put back the shutter assembly and tighten the screws.
Connect the shutter cable through the harness (take great care
while handling the fiber optics).
Feed the fiber optics cable through the harness. Loop the
harness support back .
Put back the end position detector "flag" on the
lens housing assembly.
Re-connect the fiber cable back to the adaptor. Apply a thin
coat of coupling gel.
Check the harness movement by moving the carriage with a
crank.
Check the movement of the carriage and the flexibility of the
optics cable. Check if it moves free of unwanted bending. If the cable installation is
faulty, switch off the imagesetter immediately. Check the diag/optics/laser and stability
fiber integrity. Check end position detector adj.
Expose a focus file through the calplot (slash) and measure it. See if any
correction is needed. If yes, perform a focus check. See Focus
Adjustment Procedure.
Expose a grid and measure it.
See if any correction on the bow is needed. If correction is needed, follow the next
paragraphs:
Assemble the parts of the Bow Adjustment Tool - 280B34187.
Tighten the screws.
