The interface offers PC control over the microbus for XILINX loading and the WCS. The NVM (E2PROM) is accessed only by the PC. The interface between the CPU and the 80196 controller consists of:
In buffer register
Out buffer register
In control register
Status buffer
Address decoder
I/O control signals: shutter, detectors, etc.
CODE and DATA RAM
Address decoding
HSI for time measurement
HSO for full step service motion

Microstep clock controls the motor movement while following its position. Running the motors by way of generating CLKS from the CLK generator, and division into variable values depending on the request. The purpose is to receive different speeds.
Microstep signal generation is performed by accumulation.
The Continuous Resolution Indexer (CRI) (503D29069) board
controls the shutter during film exposure. The board controls the Stepper Driver, and the
Stepper Driver in turn determines the speed of the lead screw movement. The carriage speed
differs for every resolution. The CRI works in microstep during exposure. Control of both
the lead screw movement and the spinner speed is necessary.
The CRI drives a two phase stepper motor by way of the stepper driver.
Special diagnostic mode (service) movements are possible, as is "Stop and Wait"
for data procedures. The motion can be in full or half step, up to 10,000 S/sec.
The possible exposure spiral movements are in microstep mode 80-600 S/SRC. The achievable
exposure resolutions are from 28-200 dots/mm.
Three frequency sources determine the spiral mode:
The exposure accuracy is 1 um/line, non-accumalative.
The CRI is controlled by the CPU. The CPU has access to all of the data I/O space for
diagnostics.
The CRI is based on an Intel 80196 controller. The board has programmable (software
configured) gate array. There is an I2C No.2 serial bus.

Time measurements of digital signals (for Diagnostics and pre-exposure checks)
The encoder phase detector synchronizes stepper start motion to the spinner signals. It
also counts the encoder clock starts from the index.
The block generates control signals to the motor drivers.

Note: The NVM parameters (all tables) are stored on the CRI board. Before removing the board, save the tables on the PC diskette, and after replacement, restore the tables.
