MCE/MPE field scripts for Thermal 1/1.7 with GMCE. GMCE Field scripts (TH1/1.7 head)
Th1xFieldScripts.zip

Updated 22 Apr 2005

MCE/MPE field scripts for Thermal 1/1.7. This bundle replaces fieldscriptsintel.exe, fieldscriptsalpha.exe, and TH1xMCE_Splot_scripts.exe. New in this bundle:
  • All TH1.x script output will be saved to C:\th1results\
  • Tilt series scripts added: tilt_mpe_th1x.spt
    tilt_mce_th1x.spt
  • Shutter replacement scripts added: calibrate_amp.spt
    calibrate_calculator.spt
  • Obsolete script removed: readfocus.spt

Note: Tilt scripts only work when using outer registration pins. TH1.x MCE and MPE tilt scripts only work properly if the plate is loaded on the outermost drum registration pins of 4-page, 8-page, and VLF devices. If a smaller plate is used, the correct parameter will not be adjusted and all the strips will look identical. A future release of the script will include small plate functionality.

Patches

Name Description Download
Thermal 1/1.7 firmware patch (V1.99)

Note: This patch is obsolete. Download v2.00, available from the Firmware Release page.

Replaces obsolete v1.98 firmware patch.

Problem description and fix: More...

In firmware versions 1.93, 1.95, 1.96, 1.97, and 1.98 some customers have experienced a focus fade problem. The event happens during the second half of the plot. The image fades out and the figure of merit value goes to zero. No error is reported, so the only way to know if the focus failed is to inspect the plate or monitor the figure of merit. The 1.99 firmware release fixes this problem.

Firmware version 1.99 will report an error if the figure of merit goes to zero for three or more times during a plot. The reported focus error is 17664: HEAD: focus error detected at inches while imaging, check plate for artifacts.

Note: A focus fade problem is probably a symptom of faulty cables. Cables should always be checked and replaced if necessary before installing the 1.99 firmware patch. The 1.99 firmware patch will only fix a focus problem where the figure of merit goes to zero. The figure of merit will be printed out during a plot if you enter the command: >> set head vb 1.

About this patch: More...

This patch was issued for diagnosing a stroke clock/IMAGING fault. To diagnose the error, use the following procedure:

  1. Check all head data cables (including the hotlink cable) and replace any if necessary.
  2. MPE only: Re-seat all cables and cards in the card cage.
  3. If the error persists, disable the error checking:
    1. Upgrade the head firmware to firmware patch V1.96 (download the patch from the Downloads page of this site).
    2. Mask the fault by disabling error checking. Type the appropriate commands:
      • For thermal module 4.29, or EHI version 2.15 or later: >>set head maskflt 1
      • For an MPE with an earlier thermal module:
        >>mask range
        >>set head r4 1
Note: To re-enable error checking, set the parameter maskflt or r4 back to 0.
  4. Run several quality-control plots and examine them carefully for visible artifacts. Once the error checking has been masked, you must closely monitor the image quality at the site.
  5. If any artifacts appear on plate when the error checking is masked a head replacement may be necessary.
