Thermal2 Command
ldd mode (calibrate|monitor|power|retrace|suspend|current|simulate|reset|_standby|off) [<setpoint>]

Variables setpoint The setpoint current or power depending on the mode.

Description Configure the control mode of the laser diode driver to "Calibrate", "Monitor", "Power", "Retrace", "Suspend", "Current", "Simulate", "Reset", "Standby" or "Off".

The "Calibrate" and "Monitor" laser diode control modes will use a calibrate PID control loop to set the laser current to obtain the desired laser power. The beam-balance sensor subsystem calculates the laser power using the beam-balance sensor. The laser diode control loop is considered stable when the beam-pointing has settled and the error is less than 1% for 2.0 seconds. The laser diode control loop is considered unstable when beam-pointing is unstable or the error is greater than 1%. The calibrate PID control loop executes at 10Hz if the laser diode control mode is "Calibrate" and 1Hz if the laser diode control mode is "Monitor".

The "Power" and "Retrace" laser diode control modes will use a power PID control loop to maintain the desired laser power. Since the M8 sensor is after the light valve, the power PID control loop can only execute over the clamps or during a retrace. The laser diode control loop is considered stable when the error is less than error configured by the NVS parameter ldd maximumerror ( the laser diode control loop is initially considered stable ) and the laser diode control loop is considered unstable when the error is greater than the error configured by the NVS parameter ldd maximumerror. The power PID control loop executes at 6000Hz ( but only while over the clamps or during a retrace ).

The "Suspend" laser diode control mode disables both the calibrate and power PID control loops to allow a beam-balance.

The "Current" laser diode control mode sets the laser diode current to the setpoint and enables the WLP board. Constant current does not necessarily imply constant power.

The "Simulate" laser diode control mode sets the laser diode current to the setpoint and disables the WLP board. Hardware testing can be performed without requiring a WLP board.

The "Reset" laser diode control mode sets the laser diode current to zero and disables the WLP board. This disables the TEC's and does not maintain the laser diode temperature.

The "Standby" laser diode control mode sets the laser diode current to the setpoint ( determined by the NVS parameter ldd standbycurrent ) and enables the WLP board. Constant current does not necessarily imply constant power.

The "Off" laser diode control mode sets the laser diode current to zero and enables the WLP board. This enables the TEC's and maintains the laser diode temperature.

The "Monitor", "Power", "Retrace" and "Suspend" laser diode control modes can only be entered from the "Calibrate", "Monitor", "Power", "Retrace" and "Suspend" laser diode control modes. If the transition is from the "Calibrate" or "Monitor" laser diode control modes to the "Power", "Retrace" or "Suspend laser diode control modes, then the M8 sensor is sampled to determine the setpoint for the "Power" and "Retrace" laser diode control modes.

The NVS parameters ldd calkp, ldd calki and ldd calkd configure the calibrate PID control loop, the NVS parameters ldd powerkp, ldd powerki and ldd powerkd configure the power PID control loop, the NVS parameter ldd nominalcurrent limits the laser current, the NVS parameter ldd laserontime maintains the laser on time, the NVS parameter ldd currentfactor converts the desired laser power into the required laser current, the NVS parameter ldd standbycurrent configures the standby current and the NVS parameter ldd maximumerror configures the maximum allowable error for the laser power.
