Connecting a Proofer

New_hrd1-2.gif (310 bytes) This option requires a license.

To install a Proofer as a Brisque output device:

  1. Power off the Proofer and the Brisque.
  2. Connect one end of the SCSI (Cat#199D50450) cable to the Proofer and the other end to the on board SCSI F&W connector [10] on the Brisque (refer to E30 Rear view).
  3. The Proofer must be at the end of the SCSI chain or the only device, ensure that there is correct termination.
  4. Power on the Proofer and then power on the Brisque.
  5. Verify through SciSmit that the Proofer appears correctly in the List of Defined Disks as described in Verifying Proofer Installation.

Part # Part Description Scitex Cat#
1. SCSI cable L=1m 199D50450 (supplied with the Brisque)
2. SCSI cable L=0.5m 504D37302A (supplied with Ext devices)
3. SCSI cable L=3m 199B20015 (supplied with Brisque Proof and Proofer kit)

Verify the Smart Jet SCSI ID:

  1. Go to the Front Panel on the proofer.
  2. From the Main menu, press the Setup button; the Setup menu appears.
  3. From the Setup menu, press the Set SCSI ID button; the Set SCSI ID menu appears, and displays the current SCSI ID number, (make a note of this number).

The factory set default number is 5.

Determine the Realist and Realist FX SCSI ID:

Realscsi.gif (3911 bytes)

New_hrd1-2.gif (310 bytes) The printer is shipped with the SCSI ID set to 5.If you have other SCSI devices attached to the host (CD-ROM, multiple hard disks, etc.) make sure they each have a different SCSI ID.
To change the SCSI ID, turn the dial to the right or left.

Verifying Proofer Installation

  1. Power up the Brisque, refer to Powering Up the Brisque.
  2. On the Launch Pad, click the triangle above the SciSmit icon. The Services subpanel appears.
  3. Pfrconf1.gif (3847 bytes)

  4. From the Services sub-panel, double click the Smit icon. The Password dialog box appears, prompting for a User Name and Password.
  5. Pfrconf3.gif (4558 bytes)

  6. In the User field, type root.
  7. Move the cursor into the Password field and press Enter; the following window appears.

Proof_1.gif (9776 bytes)

  1. Click Done and then click Exit to leave SMIT.
  2. Close SciSmit.

Verifying Proofer Installation via the Realist Controller

  1. From the Launch Pad open the Services panel and then double-click the Realist icon.
  2. If the Proofer is configured properly, the name of the Proofer appears in the header of the Controller window.

    Realist.GIF (14805 bytes)

If the Realist Controller is not defined as idle and not configured properly, a message will appear - "searching for printer."

  3. Check the SCSI ID to verify that there are no clashes.
  4. If the Realist is not recognized, check the SCSI connections and then shut down the Brisque and reboot.
  5. Perform Step 1 again.

CreoScitex Proofing Zone Configuration

The CreoScitex Proofing Zone is a color mode that supports ICC profiles created for specific proofers. The CreoScitex Proofing Zone is part of the color management system for IRIS proofers. It uses a database that includes all color information relevant for the IRIS proofers and can be located either on the local Brisque, or on a remote Brisque or Mac.

SPZ (Scitex Proofing Zone) configuration also enables you to determine where the database will be located.

New_hrd1-2.gif (310 bytes) It is very important that the Verify Proofer Installation stage (refer to Verifying Proofer Installation) be successfully completed before beginning this next stage.

To Configure the CreoScitex Proofing Zone

  1. At the Brisque Launch Pad double click the Calibration icon and then double click the Proof Calibration icon.
  2. Cde1.GIF (8486 bytes)

  3. From the Proof Calibration window select Set (for first time installation) to display the Data Base Location window.
  4. Pcalib01.gif (7840 bytes)

  5. Select the location of the database from a list of connected stations (Brisque or Mac) or type in the location in the Station name field.

Note: It is recommended to establish the database on the Brisque.

  1. Select OK to return to the previous window.
The following information message appears instructing you to close the window and then reopen the Proofer Calibration window.
  2. Changing your database location will cause your old database information to be unreachable.
For an update DCP calibration data - close and open this dialog.

    Pcalib02.gif (6401 bytes)

  3. From the Proof Calibration window select Modify (for first time installation) to name your proofer.
  1. Select Done to complete the operation

    The database is now active.

For Proofers not supporting the SPZ,

  1. Complete Steps 1 through 4 in the previous procedure.
  2. For Proofers not supporting the SPZ (this includes the SmartJet and the IRIS 3000), once the database is active, click OK.
  3. Select Done to complete the operation.
  4. Several tests can be performed such as Calibration, Base-line and tests for creating profiles.
