Vector output consumers | Consumer qualification
This page provides information on connecting to vector output consumers from Prinergy. Vector output consumers are RIPs capable of taking Prinergy vector output formats and reformatting them into raster images or other direct-to-device formats. If the RIP you are looking for does not appear here, go to the Device Qualification page to review your options.
Note: Empty cells indicate that the output type has not yet been tested and cannot be guaranteed to work (or fail) with Prinergy at this time. Check back soon for updates!

* DCS (Vector) files must first be placed in another application, such as Quark or an imposition package. You cannot RIP them alone.
Note about CID fonts: CID fonts can, in the following instances, be inserted into the customer's input files without the customer knowing:
Depending on input characteristics at a given site, the likelihood of encountering CID fonts might be low. When encountering a page with CID fonts, an alternate method of dealing with these pages can be taken, such as outputting DCS Raster ("copydot-like") versions of the page.
| The RIP has been qualified by the engineering team or successfully integrated at a number of customer sites. The TSS is permitted to draft sales contract with the condition that Prinergy must connect successfully to these RIPs. Please note that the RIP may only be sold with the noted configuration, usage, and limitations. | |
| The RIP may soon
be upgraded to Green, or it is on the TSS Priority
List, or both. RIPs undergoing qualification in the field are kept
on the Red list until:
1) The customer is happy. 2) the Subject Matter Expert (SME) has received enough information that he/she can satisfactorily update the vector output consumer information in the TechPlanet. |
|
| The RIP is not
qualified and connectivity to this RIP cannot be written into
Prinergy sales contracts. The RIP cannot be qualified because:
1) We simply can't connect to it. 2) It's too slow. 3) Quality is so poor that we don't think the customer will be happy. Red can also mean we simply don't know anything about the RIP. |
Additional RIPs can be qualified using the same procedure (see the Device
Qualification page) as for qualifying Proofers
and Imagesetters. For
testing the capabilities of the RIP, a set of Vector Output Test Files
is available that contains:
Note: Several of the above features (for example, smooth shades, DeviceN) require a PostScript Level 3 RIP.
