Theory of Operation
The control circuit blocks in the Strobe 5 board are:
The Strobe 5 Board (503D27353):
The Strobe board (503D27353) synchronizes the data that controls the laser spot during exposure. The board operates in full synchronization with the rotation of the spinner and carriage movement.
The principle function of the Strobe board is to multiply the clock frequency to produce a train of EXP CLK (STROBE) pulses after dimensional correction. Each EXP CLK pulse results in the exposure of one point on an exposure row. The EXP CLK pulses produced by multiplying the clock frequency synchronize data modulation.
The Strobe 5 is controlled by the controller CPU. It is based on fast ALU and field programmable gate array (FPGA). The board performs continuous resolution and dimension correction. Maximal vertical dimension correction capability is 25%. The maximal horizontal bow linearity correction capability is 200 dots resolution. It is possible to perform offsets in the vertical for OEM machines.\
Strobe 5 sends variable expose clock pulses over the plotter bus to the OMC board. The OMC transfers the clock pulses to the Data Unit. The encoder clock determines the frequencies sent by the PLL. The maximum frequency is 30 MHz.

Strobe 5 Board LEDs
The board potentiometer, P1, is used to adjust the phase between the PLL reference and PLL feedback. The oscilloscope is attached to test points TP1 (PLL FEED) and TP2 (PLL REF). The expected Delta on the falling edge should be 50 nSec.
| Data Expo | During exposure, you receive a stream of exposure clocks. |
| Sweep On | Sweep On gives you an index signal that appears once per exposure row. |
| ALU ERR | Problem with the microcode |
| ENSTB | Appears as a steady light during an exposure. It shows that a steady flow of exposure clocks are arriving. If during exposure the LED is not lit, exposure clocks are not present. |
| PLL UNLOCK | This red LED is relevent during exposure. It is weakly lit or brightly lit. When brightly lit, either there is a problem with the board or the dynamic optics encoder is not sending clocks. |
| PROG DONE | This green LED is lit when the XILINK program is loaded. |
