Planned Maintenance for Lotem 400 and 200 Platesetters

This document describes the procedures to perform during planned maintenance (PM) for the following devices:

Note: To reduce the time required for PM, these procedures are presented in the logical order of performance.

Required tools:

  • Cotton swabs
  • Vacuum pump filter and blades
  • Alcohol
  • 5-mm hex key
  • SAE 30 motor oil
  • 0.8-mm drill
  • Mobil Mobilux #2
  • Vacuum gauge
  • Grease gun
  • Vacuum pump filter
  • Silicon oil
  •

  • Non-alcoholic press blanket cleaner (rubber rejuvenator)

  • Maintenance Parts List for Lotem 400 / Lotem 400 Quantum

    Included in this document:

    Procedures

Note: When you open a door, insert a mechanical defeater. Before handling the drum, remove the defeater.

    Loading system

Note: This procedure is for manual devices. If your configuration includes the MCU, refer to MCU PM procedure.

From the loading side of the device, clean the loading tray rollers and the loading wheel with the press blanket cleaner.

    Swivel rotation unit

    1. From the right side of the platesetter, remove the two screws from the light cover, and then remove the light cover.
    2. Lubricate the swivel rotation unit with SAE 30 motor oil.

    3. Reinstall the light cover and close the right side door.

    E-box fans

Clean the fans with a vacuum cleaner.

    Vacuum pressure

    1. Connect the vacuum gauge tube to the drum vacuum nipple below the swivel joint.
    2. Activate the vacuum pump, and verify that the tube is connected correctly and does not leak.
    3. After the pump is activated, wait at least two minutes, verify that the dial is vertical and the reading is stable, and then read the vacuum pressure.
    4. Stop the vacuum pump.
    5. Disconnect the vacuum gauge, and then reconnect the vacuum detector tube to the nipple.

    Lens protector

    1. Remove the unload tray:
      1. On the left, mark the location of the two air tubes, and then disconnect them.
      2. Disconnect the connectors:
        • Two unload detector connectors on the right for all devices
        • One connector on the left for non-Omron devices
      3. Remove the two screws from the light cover and remove the light cover.
      4. Remove the four screws from the unload tray assembly.
      5. Taking care not to damage the motor wiring on the right side of the unload tray, raise the left side of the unload tray and pull it out.
Note: Do not remove the lens protector. Removing it can affect the focus.
    2. Using a cotton swab dipped in alcohol, clean the lens protector, taking care not to scratch it.

Note: Do not reassemble the unload tray. You will reassemble it later, after you perform V-block and carriage maintenance.

    Light detector

Clean the light detector with a cotton swab and alcohol.
    See FCO28131.

    Vacuum hoses

Verify that the vacuum hoses are not worn or damaged, and replace if required.

    Cleaning the drum vacuum holes

    1. Remove any plates from the drum.
    2. In Lotem Controller, turn on the drum vacuum.
    3. On the 0.8-mm drill, turn the chuck to open it, pull out the drill at least 1", and close the chuck.

    4. Insert the drill at least 1" into a drum hole.

    5. Swivel the drill to open and clean the drum vacuum hole.
    6. Repeat steps 4-5 for each drum hole.

Note: Verify that the customer cleans the drum holes properly, on a regular basis.

Edge detection strip and drum surface

Clean the edge detection strip and the drum surface with a cloth dampened with alcohol.

    Load/unload gripper detectors

Clean the following detectors with a cotton swab and alcohol:

    Carriage and leadscrew detectors

    1. Calibrate the leadscrew HP fine detector.
    2. Clean the following detectors with alcohol:
      • Carriage HP fine detector

      • Carriage EP detector

    V-block and carriage

    V-block/Carriage Beam maintenance

    Unload rollers

Note: Before you continue, reinstall the unload tray in the reverse order in which you removed it earlier (refer to the lens protector section).

From the unloading side of the device, clean the unload rollers with the rubber rejuvenator (press blanket cleaner).

    Unload detectors

Clean the unload detectors with a cotton swab and alcohol:

    Vacuum pump filter and blades

Note: Before you start this procedure, turn the platesetter off.

    1. Remove the three hex screws from the dry drum vacuum pump polyurethane cover and remove the cover.

    2. Remove the three 5-mm hex screws from the filter cover and remove the cover.

    3. Replace the used filter with a new filter cartridge, and dispose of the used filter.

    4. Remove the four hex screws from the blades cover.

    5. Pull out the seven vacuum pump blades one by one.

    6. Using an external air pressure hose, clean the inner areas of the vacuum pump.
    7. Check and replace the blades, if required.
      1. Measure the vacuum pump blades with a calipher. The width should be greater than 27 mm.

      2. If the width of any of the vacuum pump blades is less than 27 mm, replace all the blades with a new set of blades.
      3. Insert the vacuum pump blades with the curved edge fitting into the housing curve.

    8. Reassemble the vacuum pump in the reverse order.
