Replacing the support roller

Product

Kodak® punch conveyor

Background

If the (red) support roller is faulty, or is otherwise impaired, you need to replace it.

Requirements

  • Hex key set
  •

    Procedure

Note: During this procedure, you will be removing a number of screws. Make sure to save these screws for future installation purposes.

    Removing the support roller

    1. Quit the Magnus 400 Controller software and turn off the platesetter.
    2. To enable easy access to the rear of the punch conveyor (punch cover side), slide the punch conveyor out from the punch conveyor guides (on the rear of the platesetter), and then push it away from the platesetter.
    3. With both hands, lift the punch cover up and off the conveyor, and set aside.

    4. Remove the four screws (two on each side) that secure the punch cover frame to the punch conveyor, and remove the punch cover frame.

    5. On the left side of the punch conveyor, remove the two screws that secure the support roller motor guard to the support roller and motor bracket, and remove the guard.
    6. Loosen the two hex screws that secure the support roller motor to the support roller and motor bracket.

    7. Slide the support roller motor backward in the groove (to release tension on belt), and remove the support roller belt.
    8. Loosen the two set screws on the red support roller gear, and pull out the gear. Set the gear aside.

    9. On the right side of the punch conveyor, remove the two screws that secure the support roller bracket to the chassis and remove the support roller assembly (with bracket).

    Installing the support roller

    1. Insert the new support roller assembly (with bracket) and secure to chassis with the two screws that you removed earlier.
    2. On the left side of the punch conveyor, push the support roller gear onto the support roller and secure with the two set screws that you removed earlier.
    3. Reinstall the support roller belt over the two support roller belt gears (one on the support roller motor and one on the red support roller).
    4. Slide the support roller motor forward in the groove (toward the front of the punch conveyor), and secure with the two hex screws.
    5. Reinstall the support roller motor guard.
    6. Reinstall the punch cover frame.
    7. Reinstall the punch cover.
    8. Push the punch conveyor back toward the platesetter. Use the punch conveyor guides on the rear of the platesetter to align the punch conveyor with the platesetter.
    9. Turn on the platesetter and start the Magnus 400 Controller software.
