Removing and installing alignment system detectors

Product

Kodak® punch conveyor

Background

The alignment system includes four strategically positioned detectors: two home position (HP) detectors, and two end position (EP) detectors.

This procedure describes how to remove and install an alignment system detector.

Requirements

  • Hex key set
  •

    Procedure

Note: During this procedure, you will be removing a number of screws. Make sure to save these screws for future installation purposes.

    Removing an alignment system detector

    1. Quit the Magnus 400 Controller software, and turn off the platesetter.
    2. To enable easy access to the rear of the punch conveyor (punch cover side), slide the punch conveyor out from the punch conveyor guides (on the rear of the platesetter), and then push it away from the platesetter.
    3. On the underside of the punch cover, disconnect the orange air pressure tube.

    4. With both hands, lift the punch cover up and off the conveyor, and set aside.

    5. Remove the four screws (two on each side) that secure the punch cover frame to the punch conveyor, and remove the punch cover frame.

Warning: Do not restart the platesetter or software with the punch cover frame removed. The detectors do not function properly when exposed to ambient lighting and can cause MSB_C communication errors.

    6. On the alignment system, remove the two screws that secure the faulty detector to the alignment system.
Note: You do not need to remove the alignment system to install a detector.

    7. Disconnect the alignment system detector connector from the faulty detector, and remove the detector.

    Installing an alignment system detector

    1. Insert the new alignment system detector and secure to the alignment system with the two screws that you removed earlier.
    2. Reconnect the alignment system detector connector to the new detector.
    3. Reinstall the punch cover frame.
    4. Reinstall the punch cover.
    5. On the underside of the punch cover, reconnect the orange air tube.
    6. Push the punch conveyor back toward the platesetter. Use the punch conveyor guides on the rear of the platesetter to align the punch conveyor with the platesetter.
    7. Turn on the platesetter, and start the Magnus 400 Controller software.
