Removing and installing the alignment system optical sensors

Product

Kodak® punch conveyor

Background

The alignment system includes two optical sensors that are located near the alignment system pins: the spring-pin optical sensor, and the fixed-pin optical sensor.

This procedure describes how to remove and install an alignment system optical sensor.

Requirements

  • Hex key set
  •

    Procedure

Note: During this procedure, you will be removing a number of screws. Make sure to save these screws for future installation purposes.

Removing an alignment system optical sensor

Important: When handling the optical sensors, avoid touching the sensitive optical sensor windows.

    1. Quit the Magnus 400 Controller software, and turn off the platesetter.
    2. To enable easy access to the rear of the punch conveyor (punch cover side), slide the punch conveyor out from the punch conveyor guides (on the rear of the platesetter), and then push it away from the platesetter.
    3. On the underside of the punch cover, disconnect the orange air pressure tube.

    4. With both hands, lift the punch cover up and off the conveyor, and set aside.

    5. Remove the four screws (two on each side) that secure the punch cover frame to the punch conveyor, and remove the punch cover frame.

Warning: Do not restart the platesetter or software with the punch cover frame removed. The detectors do not function properly when exposed to ambient lighting and can cause MSB_C communication errors.

    Note
: You do not need to remove the alignment system to remove or install an optical sensor.

    1. On the alignment system, disconnect the optical sensor connector from the optical sensor.

    2. Remove the screw that secures the optical sensor to the alignment system, and remove the optical sensor.

    Note
: You do not need to remove the alignment system to install or remove an optical sensor.

    1. Insert the new optical sensor, and secure to the alignment system with the screw that you removed earlier.
    2. Reconnect the optical sensor connector to the optical sensor.

    Completing the installation

    1. Reinstall the punch cover frame.
    2. Reinstall the punch cover.
    3. On the underside of the punch cover, reconnect the orange air tube.
    4. Push the punch conveyor back toward the platesetter. Use the punch conveyor guides on the rear of the platesetter to align the punch conveyor with the platesetter.
    5. Turn on the platesetter, and start the Magnus 400 Controller software.
