Removing and installing the alignment system assembly on the punch conveyor

Product

Kodak® punch conveyor

Background

The alignment system is responsible for correctly aligning a plate before it is punched.

This procedure describes how to remove and install the alignment system.

Requirements

  • Hex key set
  •

    Procedure

Note: During this procedure, you will be removing a number of screws. Make sure to save these screws for future installation purposes.

    Removing the alignment system assembly

    1. Quit the Magnus 400 Controller software, and turn off the platesetter.
    2. To enable easy access to the rear of the punch conveyor (punch cover side), slide the punch conveyor out from the punch conveyor guides (on the rear of the platesetter), and then push it away from the platesetter.
    3. On the underside of the punch cover, disconnect the orange air pressure tube.

    4. With both hands, lift the punch cover up and off the conveyor, and set it aside.

    5. Remove the four screws (two on each side) that secure the punch cover frame to the punch conveyor, and remove the punch cover frame.

Warning: Do not restart the platesetter or software with the punch cover frame removed. The detectors do not function properly when exposed to ambient lighting and can cause MSB_C communication errors.

    6. Under the punch conveyor, remove the two hex screws that secure the E-box cover to the E-box, and remove the cover.

    7. On the MSB_C motherboard, disconnect connectors J11 and J31.

    8. On the side of the E-box (facing the rear of the platesetter), remove the outer screw that secures the lower E-box cable exit bracket to the E-box, and loosen the other so that you can swing the bracket down and slide the Alignment System harness through the cable exit hole.

    9. Remove the four screws (two on each side) that secure the alignment system brackets to the mainframe, and remove the alignment system assembly.

    Installing the alignment system assembly

    1. Insert the new alignment system assembly and secure to the mainframe with the four screws that you removed earlier.
    2. On the underside of the punch conveyor, on the side of the E-box (facing the rear of the platesetter), insert the Alignment System harness (connectors J11 and J31) through the cable exit hole on the E-box.
    3. Connect the J11 and J31 connectors to the J11 and J31 connections on the MSB_C motherboard.
    4. On the side of the E-box, insert the screw (that you removed earier) into the lower cable exit bracket, and tighten both screws to secure the lower E-box cable exit bracket to the E-box.
    5. Reinstall the E-box cover.
    6. Reinstall the punch cover frame.
    7. Reinstall the punch cover.
    8. On the underside of the punch cover, reconnect the orange air tube.
    9. Push the punch conveyor back toward the platesetter. Use the punch conveyor guides on the rear of the platesetter to align the punch conveyor with the platesetter.
    10. Turn on the platesetter, and start the Magnus 400 Controller software.
