Problems downloading? More...

If your file does not open correctly after downloading: breaks in data transmission during file transfers are common when network traffic is high. A break and subsequent restart may cause an error at the restart point, which results in a corrupt transfer. The end result is a file that does not open or run correctly. For example, *.exe files may not run, *.pdfs may not open, and *.zip files may be reported as invalid archives. The simplest solution is to retry downloading the file. If the problem persists, try to download the file when network traffic is lighter.

Drivers | Installers | Patches | Utilities

This page provides downloads of Print Console installers, patches, and utilities and a link to the TechPlanet site where you can download the latest driver for your Print Console workstation. You cannot download Print Console software from this page.

Print Console software (version 2.2.1 and later) is released as a component of various Controlled Releases, which are distributed only on CD. A Controlled Release (CR x.x) is a package consisting of an output device and the software and firmware that have been tested and approved for that output device. To obtain a copy of the CD containing the appropriate version of Print Console for your device, use the information on the device's Controlled Release page to order a CD from CD.Requests@Creo.com.

While Print Console is designed to support all output devices, you can check which versions of Print Console are approved for a particular output device:

Note to field engineers: If the workstation was configured in Workflow Production after February 27, 2004, a copy of the contents of the Controlled Release CD may exist on the system drive. See Copies of Controlled Releases on Customer Servers.

Drivers

Because Print Console is a heavy user of the workstation, it can often be affected by driver problems. These problems might include random disconnects, workstation resets, or the COM port not functioning. If the solution is to install the latest driver for your server:

  1. Go to the Dell platforms page.
  2. From the Dell Platforms Home Page, select the server you are using. It will be one of these: Optiplex, 400, 700, 1600, 2400, or 2600.
  3. From the home page of the server you are using, select the Downloads page.
  4. Find the latest driver for your server and install it.

Print Console 2.3

Name Description Download
Print Console 2.3.0 Patch 1 Patch 1 fixes these problems:
  • If a plate processor is connected to the CTP, Print Console could send too many images at once to the CTP, causing it to stop imaging anything.
  • Cancelling a Brisque or Prinergy job from the Print Console active queue stops Print Console from processing any more jobs.
  • Auto-media selection does not work for automatic devices.

Patch 1 also adds a tolerance feature for auto-media selection. Print Console compensates for rounding errors by adding a tolerance value. If the image is larger than the plate size by less than this tolerance value, Print Console considers it a match. The default tolerance value is 1/32 inch. It is stored in the registry in microns. It can be changed to a smaller value if necessary.

Print Console 2.1

Note: The Microsoft critical update that protects Windows 2000 computers from the Sasser Worm causes installation problems for the Print Console 2.1 installer using certain versions of the Install shield application. The solution to this problem is to install a controlled release update that contains Print Console 2.1.4.24 or later.

If you cannot wait to install Print Console 2.1.4.24 or later from a Controlled Release CD (recommended), you can download version 2.1.4.30 from ftp://ftp.creo.com/Permanent/PrintConsole/PC214bld30.zip. The zipped file is approximately 170 MB. The password is creo.

Name Description Download

Print Console 2.1.1.24 Patch 8 Patch 8 fixes banding on press that occurs when the TIFF Downloader does not use the format of TIFF file names to determine the color of the image. After the patch is installed, TIFF Downloader and Print Console should pass the stroke shift configured in the registry for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black based on the format of the file name.

Patch 8 also supports a feature that allows customers with 2400 dpi heads and 1600 dpi TIFF files to image the 1600 files without regenerating the TIFF. When the customer submits a 1600 x 1600 TIFF file to Print Console, the TIFF Downloader resamples the resolution of the subscan direction to 2400 DPI. To configure this feature, see Configuring MPE Firmware for 1600 x 2400.

Patch 8 includes fixes made in the previous seven patches (see below).

This patch installs these files from Print Console build 2.1.4.30:
  • PrintConsole.exe
  • TiffDownloader.exe
  • PrintConsoleGdapi.dll
  • Device graphics

Download and extract the zipped file. Double-click the executable to launch the installer, then follow the instructions in the installer.
Print Console 2.1.1.24 Patch 7 Patch 7 fixes these problems:
  • If a plate processor is connected to the CTP, Print Console could send too many images at once to the CTP, causing it to stop imaging anything.
  • Cancelling a Brisque or Prinergy job from the Print Console active queue stopped Print Console from processing any more jobs.
  • Auto media selection did not work for automatic devices.
In addition, Patch 7 adds a tolerance feature for auto-media selection. Print Console compensates for rounding errors by adding a tolerance value. If the image is larger than the plate size by less than this tolerance value, Print Console will consider it a match. The default tolerance value is 1/32 inch. It is stored in the registry in microns. It can be changed to a smaller value if necessary.

Patch 7 includes fixes made in the previous six patches (see below).

This patch installs these files from Print Console build 2.1.4.29:
  • PrintConsole.exe
  • TiffDownloader.exe
  • PrintConsoleGdapi.dll
  • Device graphics
Print Console 2.1.1.24 Patch 7
Download and extract the zipped file. Double-click the executable to launch the installer, then follow the instructions in the installer.
Print Console 2.1.1.24 Patch 6 Patch 6 fixes these problems:
  • Banding on press. GDAPI jobs sent to Print Console 2.1.1.24 did not trigger a stroke shift, which resulted in banding problems. This was a problem for GDAPI jobs only. TIFF jobs were not affected.
  • Cancelling a job from Print Console when imaging was complete prevented the firmware image task from completing.
  • When Print Console detects a second instance it is supposed to shut down the second instance. This was not working correctly for dial-up access.
Patch 6 includes fixes made in the previous five patches (see below).

This patch installs these files from Print Console build 2.1.4.28:
  • PrintConsole.exe
  • TiffDownloader.exe
  • PrintConsoleGdapi.dll
  • Device graphics

Download the zipped file, then open and read the "Readme" file for installation instructions.
Print Console 2.1.1.24 Patch 5 Patch 5 addresses the following problems found in the 2.1.1.24 production release:
  • Fix for Auto Media Selection feature in manual devices (complete fix available in Patch 7). This feature now selects a media size correctly, based on the image size of a TIFF file submitted to Print Console.
  • GDAPI now opens the SCSI port later. MPE devices use High Voltage Differential (HVD) SCSI cards as opposed to Low Voltage Differential (LVD) SCSI cards. This change continues to support HVD cards and also supports LVD to HVD "bridges". The bridge configuration consists of an LVD card in the workstation, a bridge to HVD, and HVD support in the MPE. The SCSI port must be opened later to support this configuration.
Patch 5 includes fixes made in the previous four patches (see below).

This patch installs these files from Print Console build 2.1.4.18:
  • PrintConsole.exe
  • TiffDownloader.exe

Print Console 2.0

Name Description Download
Print Console 2.0 Patch 1 Designed for systems running Print Console 2.0.1 (builds 2.0.1.24 and earlier) and either driving a VLF Platesetter or using the TIFF Downloader.

The patch fixes a problem that occurs when the Platesetter runs out of plates while processing a job. All Bay buttons in Print Console become unavailable until you reboot Print Console.

Systems using a later build/version of Print Console, not driving a VLF Platesetter, or not using the TIFF Downloader need not apply this patch.

This patch installs PrintConsole.exe from Print Console build 2.0.1.25.

Utilities

Name Description Download
SCSI Access Rights Utility  Applies security settings that allow a SCSI connection between Print Console and an output device. See SCSI Access Problem for details.

SCSI Access Rights Utility
  1. Download the zipped file.
  2. Extract the .exe to the PrintConsole directory.
  3. Log onto Print Console under the administrator account.
  4. Run the utility from the PrintConsole directory.
  5. Select the option to apply the security settings.
  6. Restart Print Console.
Print Console TIFF Preprocessing Tool This utility is used to rotate TIFF files by 90, 180, or 270 degrees before moving the TIFF file to a Print Console hot folder.

This utility is most commonly used for panorama plates on the NEWS 200, which limits the TIFF options available (including rotation) in order to split a single TIFF between two heads. You would use this utility with versions of Print Console that are used with NEWS 200 machines: versions 3.2, 3.4, and 3.10.

File rotation capability for dual-head NEWS machines will be available in Print Console starting with the NEWS CR 4.0 (Print Console 3.17), to be released in early 2005.
