OBSOLETE Steel Desiccant Fan Guard An improperly installed desiccant pouch may force the fan guard into the fan impeller thus preventing the impeller from turning. This will prevent the desiccant system from operating, and lead to premature head failures. |
September 1999 | Next visit |
Replace the existing plastic fan guard with a stiffer steel fan guard. Two washers will be added between the fan guard and fan, to ensure adequate clearance. |

| C700 | OBSOLETE Thermal Head 1.7X Desiccant Box
When you install a 40W head, match the desiccant box part number against the thermal head part number. Note: We no longer manufacture 40W thermal heads with 24V power supplies. Eventually, all output devices in the field using 40W thermal heads and 24V power supplies will have to be field upgraded to use 48V power supplies, our new standard. |

The table below shows the part numbers for two types of desiccant boxes for the 1.7X 24V and 48V version thermal heads.
If you have the wrong desiccant box, order a new one through logistics. Connecting the wrong box will not work, as the connectors do not match. |

| B532 | Tick Remover (Applies to all thermal heads
with serial # 190 and below.)
The Tick Remover consists of an assembly (part # 50-1467A) that fixes to the front of the Thermal Head. It is mounted by means of two screws along the lower edge of the air jet block, and has been designed to provide a VERTICAL jet of air to blow the gas cloud given off the coating of the plate, clear of the laser's light path. Because the jet is now re-positioned, tests have indicated that air flow can be increased significantly, which will enable a higher wpower to be used without causing "Tick" marks. |
Next visit | The tick remover can be fitted without removing the head and should take less than an hour to install and setup. | ||||||||||

OBSOLETE Desiccant Box Installation
Condensation in the head due to high humidity may cause premature head failure or laser light reduction. The fix is to install a desiccant box, bag and air tubes (50-1511A) to the cb side of the head to remove moisture. This ECO should be implemented at your next site visit to any site with a thermal head, even if you are not visiting for a call related to an output device or thermal head. |

C001: ASAP |
See Desiccant Box Installation Procedure. Note: The desiccant pouch is contained inside the sealed air tight silver foil bags, each kit ships with 4 bags of desiccant. The desiccant pouch must be removed from the silver foil bag just prior to installation into the desiccant box. The silver bags are not packing ! After you have visited a site, make sure you get in touch with your Regional Coordinator to confirm that the kit was installed. Also enter the upgrade in SAP as a separate call so it can be easily identified. We need to track which sites have had the upgrade, and need to get the majority of these kits installed by the end of April 1998. Before leaving the site, the FSE should train operators on how to check/replace the desiccant on all Platesetter Automatic machines if the operators seem comfortable with the procedure. So far, replacing desiccant is an FSE only procedure on ALL Trendsetters. An ECO is in the works to relocate the desiccant box remotely from the head. |

| C939 | OBSOLETE Desiccant boxes no longer shipped with
thermal heads
Replacement heads no longer come with desiccant boxes. The Trendsetter 3230 uses a different desiccant box than other output devices, so the desiccant box and bracket have been removed from all thermal head BOMs. When replacing a head, reuse the old desiccant box. |

| B700 | Thermal Blower upgrade for Platesetter
3244
The thermal blower can overheat, causing it to shut down until the electronics in the blower assembly cools. During this time, the exposure head may overheat, causing it to shut down. The problem is because the blower control electronics is in the warm air path. This upgrade adds baffles to the blower assembly to isolate the electronics from the warm air path. |
