Intermittent communication, lvd data, or safety loop errors

Product

Thermal 2 Head

Machines affected

All devices with a TH2 head

Errors

You may see other errors not listed here.

Symptoms

You may experience random communication, lvd or safety loop errors. The condition may degrade over time.

Cause

The pins in the control connector on the head or in the control cable from TH2 to MCE are bent or damaged. The outside pins are more susceptible to damage than the interior pins.

External damage:

Solution

  1. Inspect the pins on the TH2 control connector (smaller of the two military connectors). If necessary, use a loupe . This may reveal damage (see pictures of external damage above.)
  2. If the pins on the TH2 are damaged, replace the control cable from TH2 to MCE and attempt to repair the pins.
  3. Inspect the socket in the female connector of the TH2 to MCE control cable. If the sockets are not properly aligned or have burrs, etc resolve these problems prior to mating the connector (see pictures of internal damage above.)
  4. If the problem continues:
    1. If damage was visible on the pins, replace the thermal head. Please clearly note on the paperwork attached to the TH2 that the thermal head was replaced due to damaged pins.
    2. If no damage is visible on the pins follow the troubleshooting guide for the respective error. Go to the Troubleshooting page.

Note: Always check the pin alignment before connecting the control cable.
