This technical bulletin describes how to set up a Prinergy process plan to output TIFF files to a folder in Brisque, and then output from Brisque to a Lotem. It is available on the Reference page.

Direct connection to the 3016 RIP for the following devices is not supported: Heidelberg Hercules, Primesetter, Quasar, Signasetter, Topsetter and Speedway Engine Manager. These devices will be supported in a future Prinergy update. The updated technical bulletin is posted on the Procedures page.

NOTE: This update switches all existing proof and plate JTPs to use the 3016 RIP. The 3011 RIP is no longer available in this or subsequent updates. Note that for the following devices, a direct connection to the 3016 RIP is not supported: Heidelberg Hercules, Primesetter, Quasar, Signasetter, Topsetter and Speedway Engine Manager. This new technical bulletin describes two methods of controlling a Prinergy server and running Prinergy Workshop from a location other than where the Prinergy system is installed:

• Using Windows Terminal Services (WTS) to Open a Remote Desktop
• Running Prinergy Workshop Locally and Connecting to a Remote Prinergy Server

Prinergy 2.2 and the Adobe CPSI 3016 RIP has been updated with additional information on priority settings, Staccato screening, and the Convert text to paths option. It is posted on the Procedures page.

The CompatibleFonts directory and all files within it have been deleted from the previously posted versions of the CJK fonts, as they cause problems in files where the required font cannot be found on the system. The updated CJK fonts are available on the Prinergy 2.3 Downloads page.

The Prinergy Subscription email list replaces the Prinergy Front Line Team email list. The Prinergy Subscription email list was created to enable the distribution of information to those supporting Prinergy in the field, and to provide a forum for front liners to share their experiences, ask for help with problems, and trade solutions by having it connected to the AskMe application. Refer to the AskMe site for Prinergy Subscription email list processes and guidelines.

The new technical bulletin: Prinergy 2.x Database Backup Top Ten Troubleshooting Tips replaces Oracle Database: Top Ten Things to Check. The new document is posted on the Escalation and Troubleshooting pages.

The procedure for Rehosting a Prinergy 2.x Primary Server has been updated and re-posted on the Downloads page, along with an updated ZIP file containing the scripts, utilities, and documentation necessary for rehosting a Prinergy 2.x Primary Server.

The Prinergy 2.2.1.9b Minor Update has been posted on the Downloads page. The 2.2.1.9b update replaces the 2.2.1.9 update posted 31 May 2004.

This document is Creo confidential and for Creo internal use only. Overprint Handling, a new Prinergy raster color management feature, is currently in beta and only available by editing the Prinergy registry. The Altona Test Suite is a set of PDF files used to test a digital workflow, including refining, color matching, trapping, and proofing output. You can use the Altona Test Suite to check PDF/X-3 compliance and color accuracy for any combination of RIPs, color matchers, and trappers used in a composite PDF workflow for print production. The technical bulletin is posted on the Reference page.

A correction has been made to the failover procedure in the Prinergy EPM+ 2.0 User Guide and the EPM and EPM+ Emergency Platemaking and Veritas Storage Replicator Installation and Operation Guide. The correction has been made to avoid a non-critical, but annoying, error message. The updated documents are posted on the Procedures page. The EPM+ Quick Reference Cards are in the process of being corrected and will be re-posted when completed.

Prinergy 2.2 and the Adobe CPSI 3016 RIP has been updated with additional information on the availability of Overprint Handling (Raster Color Matcher). It is posted on the Procedures page.

Overprint Handling (Raster Color Matcher) is not available with the new Printer JTP (Adobe® CPSI 3016 RIP) in the current Prinergy 2.2 release; however, it is available in Prinergy 2.3. This feature will be available in the Prinergy 2.2.1.10 or 2.2.1.11 update. Please let your customers know this if they are currently using Raster CM.

The Prinergy 2.x EPM Plus Quick Reference Card has been translated into German, Spanish, French, and Italian and updated for Prinergy 2.2 and 2.3. It is posted on the Reference page.

The Prinergy 2.2.1.8 Minor Update has been posted on the Downloads page. The Adobe CPSI 3016 RIP (Printer JTP) is available as an optional component in Prinergy 2.2.1.8. Keeping Prinergy up to date with the newest Adobe technology, the CPSI 3016 RIP incorporates the latest features and provides the means for future Adobe support for Prinergy. This new RIP is the recommended one for use with Prinergy because:

• it fixes a number of font issues, specifically with Adobe InDesign PDFs, as well as a number of other issues
• it is the only Printer JTP that Creo will be updating in the future, since the old Printer JTP is no longer supported by Adobe
• the old Printer JTP will be removed and replaced with the new Printer JTP in an upcoming Prinergy 2.2 update (expected by the end of July)

The Prinergy 2.x Presite Worksheet has been updated for Prinergy 2.2 and 2.3 and is posted on the Installation page.

The new Adobe CPSI 3016 RIP is available with Prinergy minor update 2.2.1.8 and later. This feature has been beta tested as a special minor update since October 2003 as 2.2.1.60x, and is targeted for release in Prinergy 2.3. The technical bulletin: Prinergy 2.2 and the Adobe CPSI 3016 RIP, P.N. 734-00064A, is for distribution to customers using the CPSI 3016 RIP. It has been updated with additional information and is posted on the Procedures page. CJK fonts for use with the Adobe CPSI 3016 RIP are available on the Prinergy 2.3 Downloads page.

The EPM and EPM+ and VSR Installation and Operation guide has been revised with new information about system drive letter requirements and the installation procedure, and has been re-posted on the Procedures page.

Prinergy 2.2.1.6c has some changes for customers with CJK fonts installed. It replaces 2.2.1.6b, which was posted on 04 Apr 2004. 2.2.1.6c is posted on the Downloads page.

The customer is solely responsible for acquiring, installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and operating the Backup Exec software in accordance with the instructions provided with the software.
This document describes how to install and configure VERITAS Backup Exec 9.1 software in a Prinergy® 2.2 system. Backup Exec 9.1 has been qualified to back up job data in Prinergy 2.2.1.5 or later, and to work in parallel with Prinergy Online Backup to provide a complete backup solution.
A problem with Backup Exec and Microsoft® Removable Storage Manager (RSM) has been identified (VERITAS Case ID 280-101-258). Until this problem is resolved, qualification of Backup Exec is limited to the Backup Exec server (Media Server) installed on a separate Windows® 2000 server. Backup Exec should not be installed on any of the Prinergy servers. The technical bulletin is posted on the Reference page.

The Connect and Direct online help translations have been updated for Prinergy 2.2.1.5. The English version has been updated for Prinergy 2.2.1.8. All are posted on the Reference page.

The FAQ for the Prinergy Update Utility (PPU) was formerly posted on TechPlanet in HTML format for internal Creo use. In response to external requests, it has been updated for Prinergy 2.2 and 2.3 and reformatted (PDF) for distribution to customers. It is posted on the Reference page.

• Import a job with partial impositions from Preps 3.7 now works for Prinergy.

EPM+ is a solution to the long-standing customer demand for a near-fully redundant Primary server for Prinergy 2.x. EPM+ expands on Prinergy’s Emergency Platemaking feature. It combines the basic functionality of Failover (allowing a Prinergy Secondary/Render server to take over Primary sever functions if the latter fails) with the proven data replication capabilities of the Veritas Storage Replicator (VSR). This allows the Failover server (after failover) to have database and job access up to the point in time that the Primary server went offline, give or take a few seconds, enabling a customer to pick up more or less where they left off. This technical bulletin is for Prinergy users who use QuarkXPress 6 on the Macintosh OS X operating system to create PostScript or PDF files for Prinergy. For many prepress professionals, using QuarkXPress 6 might be the first time they also use OS X in a production environment, so how to create good PostScript or PDF output in Mac OS X is also covered. The Prinergy 2.2 Center Page feature is currently not supported for non-rectangular artworks (folding cartons, for example) placed in layouts created by Pandora 2.5.1 and earlier versions of Pandora. This problem will be fixed in Pandora 2.5.2, targeted for release in December 2003.

This document describes how to create curves in Harmony to prevent creation of scum dot in non-printing areas of flexographic plates. This workaround compensates for the inability of Harmony to change target tints of less than 1%. This document assumes the reader is familiar with using Harmony to derive Calibration curves, using Current and Target curves, and knows how to specify Harmony curves in Prinergy process plans. There is an invalid assumption in our code that eth adapter 0 will always be present in a customer's machines. If the old eth adapter is replaced by a new one, during an upgrade to Prinergy 2.2 for example, the new one may not be assigned number 0 by NetBIOS. You can use the lanacfg.exe utility to rearrange the numbering of the newly installed adapters so that adapter 0 is always present in the system. This will prevent the error message: E ... ExtremeSerialNumberFromMACAddress: NetBios NCBRESET error: rc=35. The lanacfg.exe utility has been posted on the Downloads page.

Creo has developed replacement trapper software for the Heidelberg (HDPP) Trap JTP and Acrobat TrapEditor plug-in that are no longer available to us with the ending of our Joint Venture (JV) in May 2003. The new Creo PDF Trapper is delivered in the same configurations: a Trap JTP and Acrobat trapping plug-ins used by the Prinergy workflow. Advanced Production Automation (APA) is a licensed Prinergy feature that lets Prinergy automatically assign pages to page set positions and assign page geometry to pages. In some cases, you can automatically create page sets. APA is a powerful tool for automating the Prinergy workflow.

The Creo Color Matcher contributes to color management in Prinergy by supporting:

• RGB image conversion
  RGB images and graphics can be automatically converted to CMYK using a standard ICC profile shipped with Prinergy, or a custom profile supplied by the user
• CMYK to CMYK color matching
  For CMYK to CMYK color matching, the Color Matcher transforms the color space of a PDF file to a color space appropriate for a specific output device using ICC profiles (This is a purchased option for Prinergy)

DVD and CD as storage media are gaining popularity among computer users due to their affordability and availability. They also offer the potential of portability between Macintosh® and Windows® due to standardized formats (ISO9660/Joliet in CDs and UDF in DVDs). This white paper presents the results of tests carried out with Sony DRU-500A and Pioneer DVR-104 combination DVD/CD writers and various mastering and packet writing software. These tests are intended to show the complexities of using CD and DVD as media for archiving data.
