| Description | Perform an internal balance ( blocking ) and initialize the stroke table. Note that the monitor command ibs mode (initiate|query|abort) and the monitor command ibs balance [nocal] perform an identical internal balance. However the monitor command ibs mode (initiate|query|abort) performs a non-blocking internal balance while the monitor command ibs balance [nocal] performs a blocking internal balance. The non-blocking internal balance is intended to allow the host to perform an internal balance while executing other functionality ( i.e. initializing the focus ). | |
| Since the light valve driver is a bipolar driver, an internal balance is required for both the high and low polarity. The internal balance for the high polarity is interleaved with the internal balance for the low polarity. The interleaving of the internal balances has the effect of alternating between performing a stroke profile of the high polarity and performing a stroke profile of the low polarity. | ||
| Each internal balance is performed by determining the stroke profiles at the maximum pixel level and the minimum pixel level. A target profile is then calculated based on the NVS parameters med <media index> beamslope <polarity>, med <media index> beamcurve <polarity>, med <media index> beampiston, med <media index> scorr <polarity / spot quad> and the stroke profiles. The internal balance then attempts to set the pixel level for all pixel quads in the stroke such that the stroke profile matches the target profile within the error configured by the NVS parameter ibs maximumerror. | ||
| For the first version of the internal beam-balance sensor board, the automatic internal beam-balance sensor configuration sets the pixel pair in the center of the stroke to provide a pixel power of 1000 counts at the configured pixel level. If required ( for development purposes only ), the automatic internal beam-balance sensor configuration can be disabled by the optional token nocal. For all other versions of the internal beam-balance sensor board, configuration of the internal beam-balance sensor gain and offset is not required. | ||
| If the internal balance is successful, the stroke table is automatically saved by the NVS parameter med <media index> stroke <polarity / spot quad>. | ||
| Note that the internal balance will not configure the laser diode driver, beam-pointing driver or light valve driver. | ||
