This release of TechPlanet CDs will not support Mac OS 9. PC and Mac OS X are fully supported. Mac OS 9 is not supported because during our March 2003 survey, we found that only 0.6 percent of our user base was still on OS 9, and as supporting that platform requires extra work and increases errors during production, we determined that the cost could no longer be justified.

19 Sep 2003: Important News About TechPlanet CD V.2 N.3/4 2003 More...

A recent decision was made by CS&S Leadership to reassign resources normally associated with the production of CDs. As the result of this organizational restructuring, we are in the midst of rebuilding the appropriate team structure for this continuing initiative. Unfortunately, this has introduced some delay into our production schedule for the next CD set.

In order to maintain a consistent annual production cycle, we will combine numbers 3 and 4 for this year into one CD set. This next combined set is scheduled for release by October 31st of this year.

Also, as the result of information received via the CD Survey, we are now beginning to work on improving the offline distribution of TechPlanet content. Any future visible changes to our CDs will be communicated in advance of each CD set. Changes that are invisible to end users, but nonetheless critical to CD production, can be followed on our CreoNet Offline page or on our CreoNet Project page.

29 May 2003: Important! TechPlanet CD Set V.2 N.2 More...

TechPlanet CD V.2 N.2 April 28 2003 will be shipped June 25, 2003.

Confidentiality Agreements will not be required for the next TechPlanet CD issue. The TechPlanet team has been diligently working with all product teams, Intellectual Property and the Creo Legal department, reviewing all content. We have ensured that there is nothing on the CDs that could compromise any of our Trade Secrets if the disks were to be discovered by parties external to Creo, even though the disks do not yet have technological security features. The CDs can now be mailed to all regular recipients without the added insurance step of the forms.

Please note, this does not mean that we should take any less care with the CDs than before, because they still do contain very valuable information that would be highly appreciated by our competitors. The TechPlanet team's next task is to determine the appropriate technical security based on the CD survey results and ROI. If you have any questions or concerns about this please contact Heidi Dysarsz.

Very Important: If you did not sign and return the Confidentiality Agreement for the latest version that you've received, (TP CD V.2 N.1 issued in March 2003, or earlier versions), you will not be issued V.2 N.2 as per our legal obligations. If you wish to receive the latest CD set, you will first need to contact TechPlanet_Feedback@creo.com for a copy of the corresponding agreement to the latest CD set you've received, sign it and return via fax +1.604.451.2737.

Other CD News: We will be including a CD index again, which you can find inside the CD cases or electronically on the home page of each CD. The feedback from our recent CD Survey showed that the majority of users found the index useful so we will continue with it in future productions of TP CDs.

Please do not hesitate to call or send email if you have any questions about the TechPlanet CDs.

Ginny Adams, TechPlanet Offline Production Coordinator, +1.604.451.2720 x2132 Fax: +1.604.451.2737.

29 May 2003: AskMe pilot update More...

Just over two months ago we started the pilot of the AskMe (http://askme.creo.com) tool with the entire Prinergy Front Line Team worldwide, wanting to ensure that we have a tool that works in all of our regions. The feedback and the statistics to date are very encouraging and we are excited about the various possibilities of this tool for all Creo teams.

We have enabled the Prinergy teams to have a better search engine on top of TechPlanet, to find the documents they need more readily. As well, all email threads on the general email list and between individuals are captured, so that others can search, find and reuse that information. We are seeing folks in CAM, CAP, CCA and CEMEA making use of this tool and we’re very excited about the results.

Feedback from individuals about their experience with using AskMe has been similar to this quote, throughout the length of the pilot: "Personally, I have found that even being a somewhat non-technical user of the AskMe system (and clearly no longer as a Prinergy "expert"), I’ve found that my shared knowledge and customer experiences have already helped others and their knowledge has saved me time and energy both in tracking down and posting information."

Haven’t checked it out yet? There’s still time to try out the system and give your feedback about its value to Creo. Haven’t set up your profile yet so that you can post those emails threads that you want to share with all of your colleagues? There’s still time. Go to http://askme.creo.com to find a variety of information. A quick and easy tool that you can use to create your own profile can be found at http://ccaaskme/profiles.

Contact Tracy Page at +1.604.451.2700 x2442 for information or a demo – WebEx is always an option!

02 May 2003: AskMe pilot update More...

The AskMe pilot (http://askme.creo.com) project (see the Prinergy home page for details) has now passed the 1/2 way point and we are seeing definite success! Many thanks to all of you who are participating and using the AskMe tool! A few stats for those of you who like numbers to be the proof of how we are doing. Please keep in mind that we had hoped for about 200 pilot participants. We are slowly edging towards that number but are not there yet. We have around 100 participants. Given that, we are meeting almost all of the metrics we set out to achieve. Imagine if we had everyone involved! (Hint: you can still sign up at http://ccaaskme/profiles)

Average Number of Daily Searches: 46 (Target: 20)
Percentage of users that are repeat users: 65% (Target: 70%)
Percentage of answers rated 3 out of 5 or higher: 90% (Target: 50%)
Average time saved per user session as rated by you: 14 min (Target: 10 minutes)

From our vantage point, this tool is looking successful. Now, it's your turn to let us know, very quickly, how this tool is helping you. There is a two-minute - honest, not a second more - survey that we need you to participate in. This tool is being piloted for you, to make your work life easier. Please let us know in what ways this tool is helping you! Go to http://learningcenter.creo.com and from the home page, click on the Assess menu. From there, click on Competency Assessment. There will be one waiting for you. Choose Launch and two minutes later you're done! Thanks in advance for your participation.

One last note: for those of you wanting the answers to show up on top of the emails. That is coming today! Try it out!

13 Mar 2003: CD Survey is coming! More...

In an effort to make our offline delivery of TechPlanet information better, we will be launching a comprehensive survey in the next few weeks which will poll primary TechPlanet end users in four main areas: demographics, technology, content and delivery. We will be developing future versions of CDs (and eventually DVDs) based on the direction given to us by actual CD users during this survey. Because of this, we highly encourage everyone to complete the survey. Even if you do not use the CDs anymore, please answer the first five questions so that we can get an understanding of why you no longer use them.

The TechPlanet CD team is here to produce a product that should make you more efficient in the field and help provide fabled service, therefore, your opinions as end-users are extremely important to this initiative. The survey should only take a few minutes of your time and all individual results will remain confidential. A summarized report will be published on TechPlanet in June 2003. If you have any questions on the survey, please contact Heidi Dysarsz, Manager, Internal Technical Support Portal. For general CD related questions, please contact Ginny Adams, TechPlanet Offline Production Coordinator.

Once again, in an effort to help protect Creo's trade secrets we must ask you to sign and return to Ginny Adams (fax number: +1.604.451.2737), a legal agreement that will be included with your CD set. This agreement merely fulfills a legal obligation to protect Creo trade secrets. It is not meant to imply in any way that you misuse the information provided on these CDs.

Please be assured that the TechPlanet team is actively working to remove all trade secrets from the TechPlanet CD sets. Once all trade secrets have been removed, we will no longer be legally obligated to protect them with the agreements. We hope that this will be the last time you are required to sign and return the agreements. Until such time, we appreciate your understanding and patience with the process.

When you receive your CD set, a copy of the legal agreement that corresponds with the V.2 N.1 release will be included with it. Please read, sign and date the agreement and send it to Ginny Adams. The process for returning the agreement is described on the agreement itself. Please note: anyone who doesn't return a signed agreement will not receive the next version of the TechPlanet CD due in June 2003. If you lose the agreement or your CD set is missing an agreement, please e-mail Ginny Adams directly.

If you did not sign and return a legal agreement for the latest version that you've received, (TP CD V.1 N.4 issued in October of 2002 or earlier), and you are already on the mailing list, you will not be issued V.2 N.1 as per our legal obligations. If you wish to receive the latest CD set, you will first need to contact Ginny Adams directly for a copy of the corresponding agreement to the latest CD set you've received, sign it and return to her via fax +1.604.451.2737.

For this cycle, we have improved our labeling of products on the CDs and included a CD index, which you can find inside the CD cases or electronically on the home page of each CD. We hope this will give you a quick reference to which products is on which disk.

Please read this if you use the TechPlanet V.1 N.4 (Oct 26 2002) CD set to refer to the following product sites: Trendsetter NEWS, Trendsetter 400/800, Trendsetter AL, Trendsetter 3230, All CTP, Platesetter 3244, Debris Removal, ArtPro, Insite, RAID, Prinergy, and Thermoflex.

Unfortunately, some errors have occurred on the V.1 N.4 TechPlanet CD set. When you navigate to certain pages, you will see an error: "HTTP/1.1 204 No Content," or "Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0113' ." This is caused by a fault in an individual page - rest assured that the documents and other content are still there.

To bypass a broken page and access the rest of the site, you can edit the URL of your browser (in the address bar at the top of your screen). For example, to access the Trendsetter AL site, navigate to the Trendsetter AL home page. When you see the "No Content" error, change your URL from:

E:\output\computer_to_plate\trendsetter_al\nav\index.htm
to:
E:\output\computer_to_plate\trendsetter_al\nav\overview.htm

This will load the Overview page. You should now be able to navigate normally through the site.

When you come across one of these broken pages, please edit your URL, as in the above example, to access a different page to bypass the error. If you wish, you may also look directly through the CD folder structure for particular files using your file explorer (Mac: Finder, Windows: Windows Explorer). If you need information directly from a page that has this error, you will have to access the information through the live TechPlanet site.

Please accept our sincerest apologies for the inconveniences that you may experience as a result of this problem. We have taken steps to check for this error in the future to ensure that it does not happen again.

If you have additional comments or questions, please contact techplanet_feedback@creo.com or Ginny Adams.

03 Jan 2002: Content reorganization on product sites continues. More...

At first glance the merge of the Support Zone and Technical Library seems complete. In actuality there is a great deal of work going on behind the scenes to further classify and organize information on product sites. In a few months time, topics such as networking and Mac Support that used to be covered on separate TL and SZ sites, will be combined into single sites on TechPlanet; sites that are applicable to all CreoScitex products.

Additionally, all product sites will begin consistently using the same content categories in their side menus. This will make it much easier for you to find what you are looking for regardless of which product site you are browsing, because a category such as connectivity will contain the same types of information, everywhere that category appears on TechPlanet.
