Symantec AntiVirus for Kodak Workflow

Virus Fixes | Support links | FAQ | See Also | Contacts

Customers must purchase a copy of the latest version of the Symantec Endpoint Protection antivirus software and install it on each of their Kodak workflow systems. Symantec Endpoint Protection replaces the Symantec (Norton) AntiVirus software, adding improved threat protection. Kodak does not sell Symantec software, nor do we install it or directly support it for them. Customers should purchase the software from their most convenient retail vendor, and should follow our installation procedure:
Installing Symantec AntiVirus Software on Kodak Workflow Servers | Chinese | French | German | Italian | Japanese | Spanish

WARNING!

The Symantec (Norton) AntiVirus Kit is not intended to be distributed to customers. It is for internal use only.
Do not give the Installing Symantec AntiVirus Software on Kodak Workflow Servers procedure directly to customers. It will be sent to customers after they have signed and returned the Anti-Virus Waiver to Kodak. Customers can find the Anti-Virus Waiver, by logging on to eCentral, selecting Self Support > Product Documentation, and then using the word “AntiVirus” in the search criteria.

Customers who have iMPAct and Prinergy systems running Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 on Intel servers should:

Note: The Symantec (Norton) AntiVirus software only applies to Intel servers. No binary viruses have been found on Alpha servers running Windows NT. However, Alpha servers may be susceptible to Macro/VBS viruses.

FAQ

Is my system secure if Symantec (Norton) AntiVirus is installed?
Symantec (Norton) AntiVirus will only protect files read/written to your local drive from known viruses. You should include Microsoft Security patches to secure your system from unauthorized entry to your server. You also must regularly upgrade Symantec (Norton) AntiVirus Definition files. Information on patching can be found on the security page

How often do I upgrade definition files?
We recommend that you refresh your definition files (choose Symantec AV for Windows NT,2000,XP > English US > Download Updates) once per month and more frequently (once per week) during heavy virus activity. Failing to upgrade your definitions will render an anti-virus solution almost useless, since most virus activity centers around new releases.

What sort of performance hit can I expect?
In our testing of a High Volume Prinergy test on a Dell PE2600 we have found little measurable performance difference with SAV v8.x, 9.0 running Realtime Scan or SAV not installed.
With SAV v8.x,9.0 you could expect a worse case performance hit of 5% when using older Servers in a Prinergy High Volume environment.
We found between a 5% and 15% performance hit in Prinergy High Volume with SAV v7.x.
